Can Ford turn the current Maverick into a next gen Ford Flex ?

They would need to widen that cramped back door, and scoot that row back a bit, from what the Maverick currently has.

The seat back needs to come down flat for that option to carry longer things, without needing to remove head rests that hit the front seat backs.

PS: Not even a close comparison....Flex was a BIG thirsty ride...any Maverick SUV will be a lot more nimble and fuel efficient.

The Flex failed only because it looked like a station wagon like our parents had.

From the uncool looking station wagons of the 60’s and 70’s came the SUV and the mini van.

The concept version of Flex (2005 Ford Fairlane) had suicide rear doors.....did not make the translation to actual vehicle.

Engineering would cost too much- think about the structure and how high the bed sits. Wouldn't be room to tip back seats enough to get into a 3rd row- they'd have to re-design everything behind the B pillar.

That's not a pick up. You can't put any tall items in the bed area. If that's what you want, there are at least 20 other vehicles you can pick from to buy with that design.

Your looking at a vehicle that sells for over $50K. Maverick buyers not interested in that much debt.

WHY?
Flex was considered a sales disappointment for Ford. While it had a unique, boxy design and was praised for its practicality and features, it failed to meet Ford's sales expectations. Ford aimed to sell 100,000 units annually, but the best sales year only reached 38,717. and it was butt ugly.
I don't think we'll see a Ford Maverick van either.
The Ford Transit Connect didn't achieve the overall market success that some might have hoped for, leading to its discontinuation in the US. However, it did dominate the compact van segment while it was available, suggesting it met the needs of a specific niche market.
No matter what your opinion of the two vehicles. Love it or hate it neither one sold with a darn here.

I’m hoping they make a next generation Focus, based on the Maverick.
