we adore our maverick--which we call moonshine!--but wife and i agree: that knob shifter is cute but really a nuisance if there's sunlight or glare on it: becomes impossible to see

I've gotten used to the dial shifter and don't even look at it anymore. Muscle memory has mostly taken over, and of course there's the display on the instrument panel.

I think it would have made a huge difference if the dial had hard stops on each end so you could "feel" where you were in the pattern.

It was weird the first couple times driving Maverick, quickly got used to it and LOVE it.

Only weird part is driving other Fords which also have a dial but it stops when you get to P on the left and D on the right. I like just "spinning it" for those, although I look down for R.

Not a fan of the dial shifter either. But why look at it? All the way left is park. All the way right is drive. PRNDL has been standard since 1971, so the order hasn’t changed in 50+ years now. One nice thing is the auto park if forget to put in park when turning off the engine.

I didn't realize it would put itself into Park. Good to know.

Yeah, got used to the auto park too and now when I drive my other vehicle it seems odd to have to shift into park before turning it off.
