we adore our maverick--which we call moonshine!--but wife and i agree: that knob shifter is cute but really a nuisance if there's sunlight or glare on it: becomes impossible to see

I didn't realize it would put itself into Park. Good to know.Not a fan of the dial shifter either. But why look at it? All the way left is park. All the way right is drive. PRNDL has been standard since 1971, so the order hasn’t changed in 50+ years now. One nice thing is the auto park if forget to put in park when turning off the engine.
I assume that helps with the glare from oncoming LED headlights, too.I had that problem, too. The fix was easy, though:
