Just wondering what is your take on the following video? He starts talking about the issue about the 1:25 mark or so. If we keep those little flaps installed is there a bunch of junk that gets flung back into the rocker panels? If so that could be bad news going forward if salt, etc takes up residence in there. Thoughts?

Seems like a valid criticism to me. I didn't realize that there was a hollow channel that ran all the way down the side like that. I agree that it would be the perfect place for salt and other nasty stuff to accumulate.

I think so too. I'm just curious what other's thoughts are on the issue. Maybe someone here has had their Maverick for a few winters and can see what those cavities look like.

I've got 3 winters in record books and plenty of big snowfalls. I spray off every week and I'm not worried about it. 23 posts without a Maverick says something. Maybe this isn't the vehicle for you. Just sayin'...
Thanks for the data point. I'm just a very diligent person who does a ton of research before making a decision (analysis paralysis perhaps) but that's just the way I'm wired. I like collecting as much data before making a big purchasing decision. I have a Maverick coming in this week (Ruby Red) that I will most likely purchase unless something unforeseen happens. I'm both excited and a bit nervous too, lol.

As I get older, I'm 65, I'm less concerned about these things. Vehicles are made better as far as rust goes. My ram is 16 years old,I wash and wax it once a year and no visible rust. Michigan truck since I bought it new. One of my other vehicle's, a 16 year old caravan, has rust showing, doesn't bother me. Life is to short. I also have an antique cuda, owned it 34 years and have never washed it. Not driven in the rain obviously.

I don't get it. I want that area open, allowing dirt and snow to wash out properly. Closing it in will cause water to not wash out and/or evaporate as intended. Do these people not use undercoating fluids, not believe in factory zinc coatings and not clean their trucks properly after covering them in mud?

I agree here, haven't lived in salty areas for many years. Closing that area off will only make it more difficult to keep it flushed out IMO. Looks to me like most of it is plastic anyway and it would actually require an accumulation of stuff (like mud) that does not readily flush out to cause problems.

You were right. Thanks for the tip. Add it to the Spring cleaning along with dropping the spare tire. There was quite a bit of debris in there. Keeping the guard on actually was easier to spray out with a hose. There are 5 drain holes in the pinchweld. I just happened to be parked up hill so easy drain. I sprayed the drainholes too Till it ran clear.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply back. I do plan on keeping the guard on as well but it's nice to know it's easy to spray out and about the drain holes.

Just looked. It is what he says even on the 2024 model. Ford really messed up on this one.

I flushed the rockers yesterday again during my normal 2 week-monthly self wash bay. Knowing is most of the battle here. Just make it a point of emphasis during a wash. I didn't know and went 2+ years with half flushed rockers. Thanks to the OP, that has been corrected!

Are the rocker panels open behind the front wheels mud flaps? I'd like to blast them out. Mine are full of debris also.

I see the holes below rocker panels but it does not look like you could get any water up to panels through them.

You spray down from above and behind the rocker. Here is the view from above. This is in front of the rear tire. The previous pic was looking inside. Knowing is most of the battle here. I didn't know that the rockers needed flushing before, now I do. Helps to park uphill for drainage, which I am anyway. I flush them at the self-wash bay now too.
