The last generation Ranger bodies had slot holes in the rockers below the doors. Dirt would build up in them too and it is very common in rust belt areas to see completely rotted rockers on them.

Even the rust proofed Rangers need to have the rockers flushed due to dirt buildup which just sits there. Used to check my 08 Ranger regularly and will now do the same with my Maverick.

You spray down from above and behind the rocker. Here is the view from above. This is in front of the rear tire. The previous pic was looking inside. Knowing is most of the battle here. I didn't know that the rockers needed flushing before, now I do. Helps to park uphill for drainage, which I am anyway. I flush them at the self-wash bay now too.

I will pull off the rear mud flaps again and wash the rockers out. I tried using a vac but the tires are so close to hole I gad a hard time getting the hose in and also the debris was way up inside. Then i will put something behind top of mud flap to block debris from getting in. Bad design flaw. Ford has always been notorious for rust issues with rocker panels.

I see many more GM pickups around here with rotted cab corners and rockers than Fords. Rear wheel wells tend to rust more on Fords in my experience.

This area should be very easy to cover with a piece of universal mud flap using the attachment points for the fender liner and aero spats. Someone above mentioned possible drainage issues...there is plenty of water drainage in this area on the Maverick, it's just a problem with trapping debris that can hold moisture.

Overthinking it in a major way, IMO. That's not the rear mud flap. The rear mud flap is behind the tire. Nothing needs to be pulled off or added here to clean the rockers. Just flush it out from in front of the back wheel. Takes about 10 seconds per side to do this.

I meant the flap forward of the rear wheel.

The flap in front of the tire doesn't need to be removed to get rid of the dirt and rocks. I am on forest service roads regularly so there's a lot of crap that gets caught up there. I blast it off at the car wash. A regular hose would likely get most, if not all, of that out.

I don't know how I never noticed that open area. tried to fix the area behind the left rear tire, just needed to look at the other side of the wheel well.
Now that I have seen it, I can't unsee it.

Ha, wife was bouncing cpl golf ball to check them out, bounced off wheel right into cavity, it was rolling back and forth, finally backed up hard and stuck at back to get out. Was think of drilling a 3/4 size hole or so, to let drain easier, my truck is clean not any off road or nasty weather

If the Ford F-150's are 2015's or Newer they're all Aluminum!! And IIRC the Aluminum Body F-150's have Plastic Cab Corner Pieces that bolt on

I made these. Stopped a big % of the junk from being thrown on from the rear tire. Plus side looks more finished wheel well as well. See before then after. Some members mention I should contact Mabett or another Maverick Amazon seller and have them make these. 🤔🏁
