I have Ford's spray in liner and then installed a Maverick specific bed rug (don't remember from who, but I remember using Ford points). Protects and is easy on the knees. If you're hauling stuff that needs more protection, I'd look into the complete rug kit that covers the wheel wells and sides. I've had the rug for a couple of years and have had no problems albeit, I'm not a daily hauler of stuff.

Anti-fatigue mats also make a great cheap flipover tailgate protector when hauling a bike.

I went the cheap route. This is a $30 outdoor mat from Home depot. Trimmed to fit it leaves just the right amount for the tailgate. I attached with screws that hold the tailgate plate on. Happy so far.
