Wanted to throw this bit of info out there just encase anyone else ran into the same issue. I went to install my ScanGauge 3 unit in my new 2025 XL and the thing would never connect. I tried all of the recommended troubleshooting steps and nothing worked. I did some quick Google searches and found posts from people using the ScanGauge 3 with older Mavs and no one seemed to have any issues with it. I finally gave in and called ScanGauge support and after some quick troubleshooting the support guy had one of their engineers add my ScanGauge to a specific firmware update group. Afterwards a new firmware update was available for me and upon updating I had a new option to enable "WWHOBD compatibility" under Settings > Advanced > Compatibility. This got me up and running right away! As a bonus I've included a couple pictures of my ScanGauge "install".

Thanks for the excellent write-up and pics. Very clean install! I've been looking at the scanguage 3 for towing a trailer and that seems to be the ticket, especially with a PID for trans temps. I like that location, but have a concern that should the airbag go off the guage would become a projectile. Do you have that concern and did the guage come with that windshield mount- it looks really sturdy with alot of room for adjustment? Thanks again!

Doesn't the air bag extend from the steering column?

Yes and there's also one in the A pillars
on the one hand, I'm fairly certain that the a pillar airbag would deploy and easily push this device out of the way. I would guess the airbag would perform normally doing so, in terms of inflation, coverage etc.

however, it possibly could be launched like a projectile, causing injury to a front seat passenger.

in my opinion a bigger concern is that if you park outdoors at home or work, or regularly visit busy shopping areas, sitting on the dash like that might invite thieves to break in and take it, and anything else in the truck.

I agee wholeheartedly on all your points. Where theft is concerned, I only plan on using it when towing a camper and the unit can easliy be unplugged and placed out of sight. However, I'm not going to sweat it too much because a thief would have a field day on all the things in my Mav that MTC members have talked me into buying anyway...LOL

What is "WWHOBD" compatibility?
Quick search:
WWH-OBD, which stands for World Wide Harmonized On-Board Diagnostics, is a global standard for vehicle diagnostics, developed by the UN under the Global Technical Regulations (GTR) mandate, aiming to harmonize and standardize communication between a vehicle's OBD system and external test equipment.

I guess I should have looked it up. Have to assume this is something new for the '25 MY as my old Scan Guage II does work with my '24. I need to have it updated so it will show my HVB SOC. I wonder if their upgrade now also Includes the new WWHODD compatibility? I have to wonder what (if anything) is functionally different in this capability.

I have used the Scan Guage ll in many of my vehicles and went back and forth with the Scan Guage lll. It seems my '23 can use either, but I found this from Scan Guage, which may affect your "25, but may be worth a call to them:

OBD-II vs. WWH-OBD:
OBD-II is a widely used standard for reading diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and real-time data from a vehicle's computer. WWH-OBD, on the other hand, is a more recent and more complex protocol that is used in some vehicles, particularly those in Europe.
Lack of WWH-OBD Support:
Since the ScanGauge 2 is primarily designed for OBD-II, it does not have the capability to communicate with vehicles that use the WWH-OBD protocol.

Good luck!

I just had a great conversation with Scan Guage- their customer service has always been great. They told me that unfortunately the Scan Guage 2 can't be updated to the WWH-OBD standard that the MY25 Mavericks run on. It will work on the 22-24's. He explained that the Scanguage 3 will also work with the 22-25's, but if you have a '25 you need to call them to update the firmware to the new protocol just like @OR3X did to get it to work.

this is pretty interesting and I think it would be impactful for everything similar that connects to the OBD2 diagnostic port, such as other gauges (Banks iData etc) as well as the Torque smartphone app, and reflash tuning devices such as SCT, Livernois or Cobb Accessport.

I would think the same thing, especially with such a brand name as ScanGuage having to adjust to the new protocol.

I did not give any thought to the ScanGauge becoming a projectile due to airbag deployment when I mounted it - but now I am. I might end up moving it further back to get it out of the way of the airbag area. It did come with the mount you see in my pictures. It uses a magnet to connect to the unit, and works pretty well while also allowing for easy removal. If I'm in an area where I'm concerned with theft I'll usually just toss it in the center console.

Good to see. I love these products.

And ditto on their customer service being great. For years and years it has been great.

Mine came with two magnetic strips.
MAKE SURE you use the larger one.
The SG III is too heavy for the smaller magnet (that presumably works for a cell phone).

Pro Tip:

I put mine above the center stack.
I also got a Cat5/6 to Cat5/6 coupler (female/female) and a short 6" Cat5/6 cable for just a couple of bucks. I disconnect and connect frequently. The expensive OBDII cable stays connected full time.

The 6" cord stays connected to the ScanGauge full time. This way, I'm only pushing and pulling on a $1 cable and $1 coupler daily; putting no wear&tear on the truck, or the port of the ScanGauge.

I have not replaced anything yet in 200+ disconnects. Actually the locking tab on the short cable broke, and I like it better this way! Makes life easier actually!
