Maverick as a firewood truck?!

I fix garage doors. Our Tundra is too full of new material to make it worth a trip to the scrapyard to get rid of old and broken springs. So I just use my Hybrid Maverick and can fit so far up to 1650 Ibs of metal and can still close the retractable bed cover.

How does it handle with the full weight?
When mine was approaching the limit it felt very sluggish in steering, and like it had body roll, the rear delayed compared to the front in steering.
I Had hundreds less lbs in there.

I dont really notice anything mostly because I am not too far from the scrapyard and the only turns I am making are at intersections where I have to make slow turns.

Ok I know the Maverick isn’t a true or typical firewood truck but I have certainly hauled a lot of firewood with it since owning it and have always been impressed and happy with how it performs! I’ve never towed near the 4K limit due to trailer limitations but I’m sure I’ve been slightly over payload capacity with hauling firewood in the bed a couple times. Truck is still in good shape at 31k miles despite almost every weekend having to do firewood chores. I changed the PTU, RDU, and trans fluids not long ago and all looked good. My Mav door sticker says 1365 pounds. Minus myself and some equipment I bet I’ve been close or slightly over cap. A face cord of green (not dry) red oak is about 1600lbs. Granted, the Mav can’t quite fit a face cord in the bed.

Put the gate down to the lower position, you'll get a little more in there.

You got that right! Good exercise for sure. But I truly enjoy everything about it, finding it, cutting it, splitting it. I’m sitting right next to a stove now burning it. Heck I even like making YouTube videos about it.

Well, it’s what my friend and landlord believes in here in Oklahoma, she thinks it’s too expensive to turn on the furnace. It does a decent job if you keep the fire going.

Yep! My dad’s previous truck, 2006 Silverado z71 had less payload capacity (1250) than my maverick!
