Update - i had moved on from it, but someone else bought it in the last day or so. Or the dealer took it off the lot. Either way, it's no longer available.

Now just waiting for the right deal on a new 24 or 25 XL.

The dealer I’ve been going to for years always discloses any details on a buyback with a print out of the issue so the dealer will have that info. You will get a better price but buybacks are hard to sell/trade if you don’t plan on keeping it and it will destroy value. If you keep your vehicles long term this isn’t a huge issue but negative equity if you try to get out of the vehicle in a year or two would be crazy. If it’s a minor issue and you make sure you’re covered with a warranty I wouldn’t be opposed to it. Just do your research. In NY the title has to be branded lemon-buyback. Also NY has a 1 year 12k warranty on all buy backs.

Life isn't all about "smart plays". If you want a Maverick, BUY ONE.

They are fun!

It's a crap shoot. You may be a goat or you may come out smelling like a rose. That's a chance you are going to take. Good luck.

...And no, do not trust the dealer. There’s a reason they want it off their hands and they’ll tell you whatever they need to in order to get it off the lot. Ask me how I know…
How do you know? See? I could not help myself...just gotta know

Anything can be fixed (except for the 12v battery charging issue, so far)
That can be fixed too...AGM anyone?

Spotted a great price on a low mileage used vehicle (about 20% less than other comparable mileage vehicles of same model and trim) that had been sitting on dealer lot for over two months. CarFax had no accidents, but noted structural damage. Dealer said car had been damaged during loading at auction, but had been repaired and said their mechanic looked over it and there was no structural damage. He said it had to be reported that way because there was no police report made and the auction house repaired it in-house. I asked to see the purchase paperwork from the auction house, which he stated was on file at an off-site facility. He called the office and they checked the paperwork and said there was nothing indicating structural damage on the paperwork. So, I scheduled a test drive and took it to a mechanic who looked over it and said other than tires and brakes it was in great shape. Negotiated for dealer to replace tires and brakes and made the purchase.

When I went to go get insurance, liability cost was QUADRUPLE what I was paying for my other vehicles. Insurance company said it was due to structural damage indicated on CarFax. I provided written proof that two mechanics had checked out the vehicle and verified there was no structural damage, but they said they would only reduce the rate if CarFax removed the structural damage from their report. Called CarFax and they said that the auction house reported it to them so I would need a document in writing from the auction house to have it removed. Auction house didn’t want to talk to me for ā€œprivacyā€ reasons because even though I bought the car, I didn’t buy it directly from them. They indicated that they had disclosed the damage to the dealer along with photos. I finally convinced them to send me the photos and there it was, a small dent in the frame at the front corner on the passenger side.

Dealer claimed their mechanic missed it because he was focusing on mechanical issues and the tiny dent wouldn’t affect drivability. They also claimed they never got any photos from the auction company. The mechanic I took it to during the test drive claimed that they had done a mechanical check of the vehicle and said it would have needed to go to a body shop for them to inspect and find the frame issue.

So, I got a crazy good deal on a used car but if I keep it 3 years I would have paid out all the money I saved to the insurance company for the ridiculously high premiums. I guess the morals of this story are: used car dealers lie, insurance is a rip-off, you can’t change a CarFax, and when buying a used car you need to take it to a mechanic AND a body shop for inspections. And now you knowā€¦šŸ˜

This is a great lesson for all of us to learn. With todays internet, you can't hide anything. And the old saying, "LET THE DUYER BEWARE"
