Would anybody do it? lol

Hello everyone. I'm looking into purchasing a 24 XL hybrid. One of them that I came across shows on the carfax that it was reacquired by ford at one point. The reason given was "No start". The next entry on carfax shows other basic service, but nothing addressing that particular issue. When I talked to the salesperson, she asked the manager, and supposedly it just needed a software update. Not sure I believe her. There are currently no open recalls on it, as they completed the back up cam recall yesterday after i talked to them.

Is there a way to find out what the actual issue was, and if it was addressed? The truck has <10k on it, and looks good otherwise.
Maybe a Carfax report would have something on it's history?

In some states the vehicle maintains the 'Lemon' designation or some similar designation on the title. Check with your state. Naturally this type of tile designation affects the future resale value and should be revealed to prospective buyer.

Carfax just shows the reason for buyback was "No start". No other info on it about the problem.

Then if it starts now, I wouldn't worry about it.
RUN AWAY NOW! DON'T DO IT! BUY A STRAIGHT UP USED ONE IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY!!!!
THAT DISCLOSURE COULD MEAN LOTS OF THINGS.
If it's a hybrid there is no starter or alternator. It could be more than you think.

I’d be very leery, at least get ford service history on the vin, would think they would show owner issue and service performed. Dealer should be able to pull service history records
Get the service record from a Ford dealer, if it was a buy-back , all factory warranty is void! The dealer that has it, bought it at the auction for a really low price or their buyer is clueless.

I had a dodge van years ago. I invoked the Ohio lemon law. Chrysler called and offered to buy the van back if I withdrew the lemon law complaint. Worked out well for me. I had 15 months and 15,000 miles.i paid the difference in the sticker price which came to about $500.

I later learned that if the manufacturer loses a lemon law case, they are obligated to share what the issue was.

when I was having issues on the original van (brakes kept going out) the service manager pulled up the service history. I found out that there were a couple of unrelated fixes that were done before I bought the van.

if you decide to get this particular true I’d recommend you ask for a printout of the full service history.
I lemon law'd my 2013 Nissan Altima when it crapped its CVT all over the road after 2,300 miles. They put another CVT in and the noises it made were hilarious so I took back to the dealer and said, don't give it back to me until it is resolved.

On day 31 (combined) in the shop, I rolled into service center in the Dodge Ram Big Horn rental they gave me and told them not to bother anymore because the car was officially a lemon. Filed with Nissan North America and got the full purchase price back in about 40 days.

Went and bought a Forester in the meantime and never looked back.

Wouldn't touch it. To me it's like leaning into a punch.

Anything can be fixed (except for the 12v battery charging issue, so far)
Sure, it has.

Several solutions, in fact:

1) put in a DIe Hard battery
2) put in an AC/Delco battery
3) put in a bloody walmart battery
4) put in any damned battery you want that doesn't say "Motorcraft" !

:teehee:

[but Ford hasn't adopted any of these for warranty repairs]

When life gives you lemons, buy one that's not a lemon.

When a company sells junk and takes forever or never fixes it, the only way left is to confront and hit the wallet. Settling or selling at a loss is a choice. Funny how some people hate on and name call someone they disagree with. It's the new way of trying to shut someone up like our current biggly boss works.

Some states require a title on a lemon law repurchase to state as such. Other states do not. Find out if your state does. I have bought a lemon law car (a Nissan), it specifically listed out what is was for, and mine was because the connectivity feature I would never pay for didn't work right too many times. I got a great deal because of it. Yours might've just been the dealer let a customer return their car for a reason others wouldn't care about. You can't sell a car as new once it has been titled.

There is some small risk here, but I assume it's still under general warranty.

Our original plan was to buy a new vehicle by the end of the year. She would get the new car and i would get her old one, a 2017 CRV exl. Wasn't excited about it at all, but doing it for the sake of the family lol. However, she was in a car accident a few weeks ago (she's fine), so that changed all of that.

We bought her a 2025 CRV Exl. I wanted the Hybrid, because it's hybrid and they look tons better than the non hybrid versions. I currently drive a 2012 Volvo S60 Rdesign with 167k and it's becoming the money pit that they do. It's actually in the shop right now getting $1700 worth of work done, and there's much more that should be fixed, but not super necessary. She knows i've really liked the Mavs for awhile so she was open to it, but since then she has researched and seen all the issues with some of them.

Her "counter offer" is to purchase a 2022 CRV exl for herself, because there are a couple features she misses from that generation, and I drive the 2025. She doesn't care about it being the older gen, as she still rocks an iphone 11 cause it still works lol. I know the CR V is the "better" vehicle, but it's just so boring. The other option is to keep my car for at least another year to see how these 2025s are holding up, then revisit it.

The smart play is to take the honda, but my heart is set on the Maverick. I do love my Volvo, but i'm getting to the point i'd rather it become someone else's headache. ugh.
Good luck in household negotiations. I wouldn't touch a buyback without more records and a full extended warranty baked in.

I hear you, Honda does make cars for the thinking man, but the Maverick is a lot of fun. The CV axle thing might come up, but CRVs are upmarket Hondas. Is a 2022 CRV really going to be cheaper than a (not lemon) Maverick + CV axle work after you've hit 5 years, 60k?

It's just all about her comfort zone. She's a honda person, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. She's back on board with a Maverick. Just have to wait for the right deal.
