I know this mileage is the result of a downhill drive, but I couldn’t resist sharing this screenshot showing a staggering 158.0 mpg!

I've come across posts (unfortunately, can't find them at the moment) discussing the elusive "magic 99.9" mpg.

Well, here’s proof that you can indeed surpass 99.9 mpg!

When I pull mine into the carport I can get 999.9, which you may have been thinking about. I think that is the highest the Mav is capable of reporting.

I've recorded this also.

And going 8 miles uphill followed by 8 miles downhill nets 3 mpg lower than 16 miles of pretty much flat.

Example: 16 miles at 55 mph cruise control on flat = 48 MPG.

Then reset trip meter.

Then went 8 miles up gaining 1600 feet elevation. Then went the same route back downhill and net 45 MPG for the whole trip.

So "about" 23 mpg going steeply uphill.

Note: my "8 miles" had an average grade of 3.8%. But with camel humps on the road some areas were as steep as 12% for short sections.

That must be a Lariat?

I don't think that is possible in XL or XLT.

Because....

If you use zero gas on a short trip it says "All Electric". Which is really more accurate than 999.9 which implies you used some gasoline.

And if the gas engine runs, even for a second or two, usually it uses more than seven molecules of gas and your number is lower than 999.9 MPG.

To get my 975.9 MPG obviously I was going downhill.

The number dropped from "infinite" to 975.9 just from the engine spinning up to provide engine braking because my battery was "full" after all that downhill.

Once the engine got up to speed, fuel was cut off. So a couple of seconds of run time out of 15-17 minutes lower me from infinite to 975.9!!

Hence 999.9 is just short of impossible as a true value. I get it is the "same" as "all electric" but why does the Lariat not just say "all electric" like mine does in this case?

FWIW the "live" instantaneous MPG will display 999.9 during engine brake, with fuel off in XLT. Maybe this is what you remember seeing and not a "trip" of 999.9?

This is how you know you are in an engine brake condition: 999.9 instantaneous. There's no way to get higher than ~ 180 MPG with fuel actually flowing.

These types of drives is where the magic of PHEV comes in. You would almost never need to use gas otherwise.

Just a humble XLT. I get 999.9 all the time when I pull into the carport after unloading groceries. I'll grab a screen shot next time I remember.
Better yet do a forum search for 999.9 and you will get a bunch of hits - Here's one from you in post #11  https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...g-during-sustained-braking.48909/#post-848154

We gas up about every 3 weeks and that is when it has dropped down towards half a tank left. My wife's late grandfather's advice to us almost 39 years ago when we were newlyweds was to never let a gas tank get below half a tank. We never have since.

One time I got -1.5 to the 120th power mpg when an alien abducted my Maverick and instantly transported me to Bangladesh.

You're so funny... The only number that really counts is for a full tank... and even then people have been known to cheat a bit.

FWIW the "live" instantaneous MPG will display....
Curious how to see this...

We only see the display after turning off the vehicle.

And the one available by using the OK push selector show what it is overall.

Can you post how to view the "live" instantaneous you mentioned please
