That's what I mean - there's a fundamental misunderstanding of how that works.

There is no direct connection between the two - engine and 12VB.

12VB touches a relay, and is charged from the DCDC Conv.

Engine touches a generator motor that feeds the DCDC Conv, along with the HVB and traction motor.

The ICE being started and stopped has no effect on the 12VB.

Yes the BMS is an issue.
But even the term gas engine battery is incorrect. It's not.

But the BMS isn't starving the 12VB in favor of the HVB, again a misunderstanding of how it works.

Mine's a small Spain made 12VB.
Google believes an AGM battery is best for hybrids, and states that it is better for hot climates and for frequent gas engine starts and stops; should last longer and charges quicker. The down side is the cost. So who should I believe; you or Google? Have a nice day.

You know what's in the eCVT? A motor (two of them, in fact) one of which has the duty of... starting the engine. A starting motor you might say.
Sure, one of the motors (MG1) does start the ICE as part of it's functionality. It is not an exactly an alternator, which is just a name for cheap brushed electric 12v motor, like a traditional vehicle though. It performs more tasks beyond that as well.

Yes an AGM is a better battery for hybrids, but it has nothing to do with starting the motor in a hybrid, beyond powering the computers that tell it to start. The 12v battery is used only to power the in vehicle computers, radio, lights and such. It has nothing to do with powering MG1, which is used to start the ICE. Please do some research beyond a simple Google search (which is now just Gemini AI responses). There are papers on this subject that go far beyond that simple answer if you take the time to look.

Ford put an AGM in the EB, because it has auto start stop for a traditional alternator, which is very hard on the batteries.

While this four part series is for Toyota Hybrids, by a Toyota Master Tech, Ford's system is extremely similar. The most important part here in the linked pt1 is how the system starts (4:48s). Part 3 covers the eCVT.

I never said it starts the motor, you assumed that. It must be very hard for you to be so much more intelligent than the rest of us; and having to always correct ignorance. It must be very frustrating for you. If you are correct, and I and AI are wrong; I can live with that. Suggest you chill out and try to have a nice day.

To err is to be human. Sounds like you need to take your own advice. ;)

As stated in a prior post, Ford replaced with the same type (warranty and not AGM); it appears to be marginally better. Had not driven the Mav for 2 days. Before replacement the voltage at startup would typically be 11.7. It was 12.2v this noon with the replacement battery. Assuming the replacement battery doesn't also require warranty replacement' my next battery will be an AGM. It is my understanding AGM batteries are better for hybrids because they handle frequent starts and stops better.
Same for me on my 8-month-old truck.

For twice the price, and AGM will give you maybe 10% better reserve capacity, which is the only number that counts on the Hybrid.
2022-24 factory battery has 65RC
2022-24 manual replacement spec 99RT4 also has 65RC
2025 manual spec H4 AGM has 80RC, or +23% from pre-facelift

H5 AGM, which some maverick owners have modded in, has 100 RC, or +54% from stock

48H6 AGM, which many 2020+ Escape Hybrid owners have swapped in as a drop in replacement (that unfortunately would require more extensive modifications on a Maverick to fit) has 120 RC. +85%.

All RC values may vary a little between battery suppliers. How did you calculate 10%?

Written comments lack voice inflection and can fall short of expressing someone's mindset. It's easy to misinterpret another member's post. I hope you take that under consideration next time you feel 'attacked' by a member. Yes, it happens. No saints here, but sometimes a quick DM can clear the air. Take care.
