The AWD hybrid actually had slightly better mpg than the turbo 2.0 in much warmer temperatures. The testing conditions for that AWD hybrid were pretty much as bad as you can get, but it still did very well.

The only thing left to prove for me is what kind of mpg it can achieve on long, flat interstate drives at higher mph than the 55-60 of this video.

EB was 6.5 mpg, but 20+ seconds faster uphill.

@ 27.30 mark

Yep. Give me the AWD hybrid 4K all day long.

It's impressive. Even more impressive is that fact that they should've reduced total gross weight by 1,600 lbs:

Wondering if the next Maverick iteration (2028?) will only be hybrid. What's crazy is while it has 190 hp, that includes the battery supplying power and it was dead after that first acceleration run. So, they were doing it all on a normally aspirated 160 hp @ 11,000 feet.

Upgrade the interior a bit in 2028 and I'm a buyer.

It only says to reduce weight to match "perceived" performance at sea level. It doesn't say it is dangerous or a harm to the vehicle.

Isn't the combined power 191 and the gas engine 152 or something like that. So it would be more like 100hp after the battery drains at 11,000 feet.

ICE is around 160 hp IIRC. Battery is small and was likely at 30% min state of charge inside the first minute. Yep, pretty impressive.

Or it’s destroying the engine lol
Probably running around 5500 rpm @The Real Maverick would know the top out on that motor.

Keep in mind what you are talking about here. Their summary at the end was great - for people who use this for commuting and occasionally tow a boat, camper, etc on flat or slightly hilly terrain this vehicle is perfect.

Don't buy the Maverick if you plan to regularly tow two tons up 7% grades @ 11,000 feet. That is outside it's mission.

For 98.5% of vehicle buyers, they won't ever do this or if they do it will be once in a lifetime. They'll be fine and no long term damage will be done.

Or, do what most guys will do and buy that lifted 2500 HD to tow air and get 12 mpg and complain about gas prices lol.

I'd rather have more $$ in my investments, then sitting outside because it won't even fit in my garage.

Hmm interesting, glad they did the test, result was better than I expected. Would be curious to see what the electic motor was doing on the climb and if the battery ran out, is there a screen for that?

The battery was totally spent after that initial acceleration from 35-60 (or 56mph) and that was the 2.5 holding on for dear life after that, and damn if she didn’t.

Ford doesn’t with their 2.5 but some manufacturers can switch between (modified) Atkinson (more efficient) and Otto (powerful) cycles and basically have it act like VTEC supplying additional power when you’re giving her the beans like that.

Maybe in 2028 if the 4K tow sells like hot cakes

My Lariat quite alright on the inside. I’m not entirely sure what you would upgrade. The seat bottom should tilt independently. Wouldn’t mind memory seat and mirrors for 2 drivers, tied to key fob used otherwise it’s got about everything I want.
