WRONG: From Motortrend:
Those Are Small Beds. How Much Weight Can They Carry?
The new Maverick has a maximum payload capacity of 1,500 pounds; the new Santa Cruz tops out at 1,748 pounds (though this number may change, as Hyundai has already revised it multiple times). Payload is the combined weight of all passengers and cargo, and Hyundai points out the Santa Cruz is only rated to carry 660 pounds of its total in the bed

Now that’s just sad! 😆
I wonder if this is because of a weak rear axle

From what I understand, you can load 1300lbs in the bed and put a 200lb driver in the Maverick and all would be kosher

But a $10k difference for the highest trim levels. That' YUGE. Especially for the targeted buyers.

They are not like my friend Ray who... buys two F150 Platinums yearly...
I'm not going to lie, at the upper tiers, the Hyundai is nicer than the Maverick. It's a nicer cabin and more upscale styling throughout. But $10k nicer? Idk

I understand that, but as others have pointed out, you could load 1500 pounds in the Maverick's bed, but you won't be able to drive it as it would exceed it's payload capacity as soon as you sit in the driver's seat. I've ordered a Maverick, FYI, but I'm not splitting hairs to find an advantage over perceived competition.
You could still put a helluva lot more than 660 lbs in the Maverick’s bed with plenty of capacity left for passengers!

That Santa Cruz number is just plain sad.. 💁🏼‍♂️

Right I agree it’s nicer inside at higher trims but 20% nicer? Not even close.

The maverick is made in Mexico. Sorry but I can’t overlook that. The Hyundai will be made in Alabama. I’ll pay more all day for that. When I think Ford I think Detroit American iron. Not Mexico.

Sorry Ford NO sale.
Yes...I have thought of that. Maybe when demands ramps up they will build some in USA??

The SC interior is only nicer in an SUV, soccer-mom kind of way… it’s like my Honda Ridgeline… it is not functional as a truck interior.

"Payload is the combined weight of all passengers and cargo" This applies to the Maverick as well. You cannot place 1500 pounds in the bed of the Maverick and expect to drive it anywhere as the driver would be the straw that breaks the camel's back by exceeding the rated payload capacity of the Maverick. Look, full disclosure, I've ordered a Maverick XLT Hybrid in Cyber Orange. But let's be reasonable here, splitting hairs over payload capacity isn't winning anyone an award.

Except Hyundai has put a hard limit of 660lbs in the bed where Ford has not.

As others have pointed out 660 lbs is just wimpy!

You can load 1300 lb. Into the bed of the Mav and a 200 lb man can drive it.

Not so with the Santa Cruz. Borderline lying by Hyundai!

I suspect the weight limit is so little in the bed bc of the lid on the in-bed trunk. Honda used tough carbon fiber for the lid to solve the payload problem. I suspect, for cost reasons, Hyundai did not…

And Hyundai’s warranty is a joke.
This is nonsense. I've got over 100k miles on a hyundai and have had two issues the entire time [clock spring and loose steering box] , both covered by that "joke" warranty without any problems. One of those arose after an industry standard 5y/60k mile warranty would've lapsed.

Doubtful… look at Honda Ridgeline sales. Anemic.. Honda sold just 32,000 in 2020. And that was with the automotive press giving it accolades..
Honda may respond "can't say i missed until you know what I was aiming at". Honda simply isn't trying to sell as many Ridgeline units as, say, civics or accords.

Hyundai isn't going to sell as many santa cruz units as ford will mavericks because that is not what they set out to do. I fully expected to pay about 37k for a santa cruz limited...39k is probably too rich for my blood and I'll stick with the 26k hybrid xlt that I have on order. But I bet many people will get into a santa cruz; tons of folks out there are willing to pay a higher price for a more premium product. Hyundai only needs to find about 35k of them to be able to honestly declare the program a success.

Nevermind that more of the Maverick is likely made in America than the Santa Cruz

Not only that, but more of the Mav highly-paid engineering, design, testing talent in America too vs. the Santa Cruz! That’s a lot of American jobs on top of the American components in the Mav!
