So Hyundai FINALLY dropped the pricing of the Hyundai. (After Destination) the Hyundai starts about $3,700 over Maverick and tops out $7,000+++ over a loaded Maverick. At that point you could get a loaded Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy or Ford Edge Titanium. Or better yet. Ford Ranger Supercrew 4x4 Lariat Lux package. Seams like Hyundai dropped the ball.

Another great comparison chart, FirstOnRaceDay. It's a little embarrassing to find out that a base Santa Cruz can cost not much less than a top trim Maverick Lariat. I wouldn't say Hyundai has dropped the ball or failed the SC as a product just yet, because they are famously known for providing a ton of value and features for a similar (or even lower) price. Some people may be willing to pay a little more money for more convenience features. But then again, some may not, given how a loaded Maverick can't really reach the base price of a top Santa Cruz.

The maverick is made in Mexico. Sorry but I can’t overlook that. The Hyundai will be made in Alabama. I’ll pay more all day for that. When I think Ford I think Detroit American iron. Not Mexico.

Sorry Ford NO sale.

Incorrect. $25k to get AWD and 3500lbs towing.

It looks as though you have to go up to 35k to get the turbo engine, AWD, and 5000lbs towing.

The Santa Cruz more or less bridges the gap between the Maverick and Ridgeline in the "SUV-unibody-pickup" category.

There is overlap between the Santa Cruz and Maverick in terms of capability and cost, and there is overlap between the Santa Cruz and Ridgeline. There is, however, zero overlap between the Maverick and Ridgeline. The Ridgeline costs more and is more capable than the Maverick.

Also, the Santa Cruz offers a more premium feel, hence the elevated price.

I'll have to test drive both vehicles, before I decide which one to buy....though, I'll probably be going for a Hybrid Lariat Lux.
I own a 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E. The capabilities SUCK! It has LESS capabilities than a top of the line Mav. It is a soccer-mom mobile with a bed on the back. Same as the Santa Cruz.

The Honda Ridgeline has ZERO off-road capability whereas the Mav has a full FX4 package available. (Honda’s such a wimpy company they don’t even make skid plates for them!)

Go on any forum and read about the notorious transmission overheating problems with the Ridgeline.

Honda says it can pull 5,000 lb, but my transmission will overheat on a hot summer day pulling my 3900 lb boat/trailer. Meanwhile the 2014 AWD Escape we had that had a limit of only 3500 lb did not have this problem and was quite happy in spite of the extra weight.

Hyundai not being a truck company probably made all the mistakes Honda did in terms of towing, etc. I’m sure it’s a jumble of parts from their SUV parts bin, as opposed to Ford’s truck parts bin.

if you look at the payload and bed capacity of the Ridgeline vs. Mav, you’ll see that oddly they’re the same/similar in spite of the size/price difference..

Doubtful… look at Honda Ridgeline sales. Anemic.. Honda sold just 32,000 in 2020. And that was with the automotive press giving it accolades..

The SC is to the Ridgeline what the Mav is to the Ranger (and Ford sold over 101,000 of the Ranger in 2020)

Payload capacity is 90 lb LESS than the Mav, (1410 vs. 1500) and towing is 1,000 lb MORE than the Mav. at the top end (5,000 vs. 4,000)

Also, the SC has absolutely no off-road chops (like the Ridgeline) which immediately takes away about 20-25% of the buyers.
Santa Cruz payload is 1748-lb, 248lb more than the Maverick.

It’s ā€œassembledā€ in Alabama.. you might want to take a look at the country of origin on the parts vs. the Mav. I’m sure you’ll see a different story.

They have that listed on their website but that’s not what they told the trade press when they let them do the reviews.. from the Autotrader review:

Ford has more American factories, employees, products and parts than any other maker by a LANDSLIDE.
And yes I high doubt most of those parts on the Hyundai are American made.
Not to mention the RND was likely done in Korea and the profits go to Korea.

*bed Payload is 1500lbs Maverick vs 660lbs Santa Cruz.
I understand that, but as others have pointed out, you could load 1500 pounds in the Maverick's bed, but you won't be able to drive it as it would exceed it's payload capacity as soon as you sit in the driver's seat. I've ordered a Maverick, FYI, but I'm not splitting hairs to find an advantage over perceived competition.

WRONG: From Motortrend:
Those Are Small Beds. How Much Weight Can They Carry?
The new Maverick has a maximum payload capacity of 1,500 pounds; the new Santa Cruz tops out at 1,748 pounds (though this number may change, as Hyundai has already revised it multiple times). Payload is the combined weight of all passengers and cargo, and Hyundai points out the Santa Cruz is only rated to carry 660 pounds of its total in the bed

Now that’s just sad! šŸ˜†

Only 660 lbs can be carried in the bed!

Look at the explanation I posted from Motor Trend…

Hyundai trying to ā€œspinā€ the numbers. That’s borderline lying by Hyundai

But a $10k difference for the highest trim levels. That' YUGE. Especially for the targeted buyers.

They are not like my friend Ray who... buys two F150 Platinums yearly...
