FYI; I know that some members have no faith in these numbers; but to argue one would have to believe that CR members that provided info were statically different from the population of car owners in general. Here are the interesting numbers: (lower numbers are predicted less reliable)

2.0 Maverick 73
2.5 Maverick 69

Santa Cruz: 37
Ranger 47
Ridgeline 50
Tacoma 71

My CX-5 was rated 71 (3rd in class)

Not surprising with the SC bringing up the rear. Been trying tell those that are tempted that's why it comes with 100k warranty because you're going to need it. Hyundai has convinced people that it's a bonus having the warranty. Than why do Hondas and Toyotas only have 3 year 36k but are more reliable?

Good point; but I suspect that not all Hyundai are crappy.

Yup. There are thounds of Hyundai owners waiting for new engines for various MY2018-2020 vehicles due to production faults. To think that happened before the supply chain went crazy and the quality of parts in general started to drop. I can only imagine how many SC owners will be dealing with stuff like that in 3-4 years.

How far out do these project anyone know? Is that for period of time for review (likelihood of needing service in 1 year), projected to 50k, 100k, etc? Thanks

Knock on wood, but my son continues to drive a 2013 Sonata at 130,000 miles with no major mechanical issues. I had an early version Santa Fe that was a lemon. Had another Santa Fe that got its short block replaced right after we bought it used (under warranty) that my son then totaled shortly thereafter. I've had a hybrid Sonata with no issues for a year. It's a box of chocolates.

Where did you get that information about a drop in parts quality?
Many youtube mechanics and techs have noticed a drop in quality of parts, from some OEMs anyway, and in many third party alternative replacement parts. Not that the shape or fit of the parts or is bad, but due to rising costs companies have moved to cheaper metals leading to inferior part durability. In some cases the parts are just not as well machined/finished as they would have been before, which could cause fitment issues in some cases.

Consumer reports noted the drop in build quality of several vehicles that have for a long time been known for being very reliable, like the Toyota Tacoma for example.

There’s some truth in that. I had replacement discs on a high mileage CX-9 fail (warp) after 5k miles. Service manager said this parts quality issue has become a common problem these days. They replaced them for free under a 12mo parts supplier warranty, no questions asked.

So in other words, it’s like a rumor or a meme.
