Just finished a 2-week road trip from just north of San Antonio up to the Dakotas and back in my 2024 XLT Hybrid. Straight north through the prairies and then back down through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and NM. 10 states, 3423 miles. Averaged exactly 34.0 mpg, according to the trip computer. Trip included a full variety of roads, from flat 75 mph prairies to slow curvy mountain roads in South Dakota and Colorado. And a variety of gasoline - used a lot of no ethanol 91 octane up in the Dakotas.

Spent half of the nights in state park lodges/hotels, half camping in rooftop tent. Highlights were Custer State Park in South Dakota, Theodore Roosevelt Natl Park in North Dakota, Devils Tower in Wyoming, Poudre River canyon in Colorado.

Had a new 12V battery installed under warranty and the AC module software update just before the trip. Truck ran perfectly the whole trip. Had sleep mode once when we set up camp in Colorado and didn't move the truck for two days. Lots of opening doors and tailgate in that time, and interior lights stopped coming on. But that was just fine - wish I could tell the truck to not turn on the exterior high brake light shining into the tent when I open the truck door early in the morning to get my coffee stuff. But truck started up every time. (I did have to use my Noco jump box once to get a campsite neighbor's car started...). All fluids still full when I got back home (except the washer fluid - it was a buggy trip...).

Happy with the truck and the setup.

Some people want to go to Europe on vacation. Not me! I'll take our western scenery every time.

Great trip.

Jeff
Yes - it was a beautiful trip and a great vacation to unplug from some of the things going on in our lives now.
But I do like seeing the rest of the world as well. Work or vacations have taken me to every continent except Antarctica. Had a great time renting a car and driving and walking around Yorkshire, England last year. Lived in Switzerland for a couple of years and it's hard to argue with the beauty of the Swiss Alps.
But also hard to argue with the simple ability to just load up the truck and hit the road to see what our country has to offer. After getting to North Dakota on this trip, Rhode Island is the only state that I have not been in.

Made that trip a lot. Grandma lived on or near Pine Ridge Reservation, where my Dad grew up.
Lot of history there. I worked for IHS, but was never assigned to that part of the country. We drove right through there on our way up to Custer SP...

Now that brings back sweet memories. Did similar trip with our 5th wheel RV, towed with F250 diesel Super Duty. We spend a week in Custer. CG offered deal… spend 6 nites, get 7th nite free. Tight squeeze thru one of tunnels on Needles Hwy in that F250.

We had reservations to camp in Custer, but cold front dropped temps into mid 30s the three nights we were there. I was happy to be out of the mid-90s temps here in Texas, but Roofnest not insulated so we stayed in one of the lodges instead. 20% discount for three night stay, and we slept warm with bathroom and shower in the room.
Mav was perfect for the Needles Hwy and Iron Mountain Road drives.
