Hi all, just wanted to share my setup in case it helps anyone and because this forum was extremely helpful as I was looking at options (as well as getting some great discounts from Amber C. [email protected]. She was so great to work with, make sure to reach out if you are looking at getting any of these items!).
Tonneau Cover
My goal was to find a tonneau cover that would be compatible with a bed rack and my RTT. After reading lots of reviews I decided a hard rollup would be ideal for my set up, even though they are on the pricier end.
I was torn between the BAK Revolver X4TS and the RealTruck Sentry CT.
BAK Revolver X4TS:
- Pros: Biggest pro was that it already has built in T slot rails to add a bed rack. I also liked the metal interlocking teeth mechanism to latch the sides of the cover as you unroll it. Also don’t have to unlatch the cover in order to close the tail gate.
- Cons: Biggest one being Vinyl material with quite a few negative reviews on quality over time and potential for delamination. Also not as easy to remove the cover completely if ever needed.
RealTruck Sentry CT:
-Pros: woven fabric material with proven track record of durability. Also very easy to remove cover completely and pop back in.
-Cons: have to pair with Elevate TS Rails for T-slots and bed rack compatibility. Velcro along sides to help seal, and I thought this looked more gimmicky and less smooth to open than the interlocking teeth on the x4ts. Also have to unlatch cover in order to shut tail gate.
I ultimately decided to go with the Sentry CT + Elevate TS Rails, mainly because of the durability concerns with the XT4S. After having it for a couple months now I can say that I am EXTREMELY happy with my decision! Everything works really smooth, feels very high quality, and looks really good. The Velcro on the sides works really well and doesn’t bother me like I thought it would. I also don’t mind having to unlatch the cover if I’m just opening and then closing the tail gate. It’s super easy and quick, and takes very little extra effort. + I think it provides a better weather seal. I’ve also pulled the cover out completely a couple times, and it was easy to take out and put right back in.
RealTruck Sentry CT + Elevate TS Rack Install:
Install was pretty straight forward and without really any complications. You’re technically supposed to remove one of the rubber seals and replace it with a provided thinner one since you’re sandwiching the rails in between the sentry ct rails and the bed rails. Sadly, that thinner seal was lost during shipping and so we ended up not messing with it. The good news was it went on without any issues and hasn’t seemed to cause any problems after 3 months of use.
RealTruck Elevate Base Truck Rack:
I decided to go with this truck rack for a couple of reasons. First, I overall liked the look more of the lower profile rack, especially with an RTT mounted. Second, I was really interested in the quick release/install mechanism on this rack as my hope was to just keep the RTT mounted to the rails and remove both the RTT AND Rails all together on a lift. This was big for me because with our previous car we had a difficult time keeping it clean as we don’t have hardly any self serve car washers where we’re at, and removing the RTT is somewhat of a hassle so we just wouldn’t wash it that often. But if I can easily remove it with rails when not in use, then we could keep the new truck much cleaner.
The last concern with these rails is that the tonneau cover might be too thick when rolling up to clear the bed rack. However, I figured out that if I just do a more oval shaped/longer roll I’m able to get it to roll all the way back if I need (see picture). I think because the bed on the Maverick is shorter it’s able to clear the bed rack, where it probably wouldn’t on like an F-150.
FLEXIMOUNTS GL1 Overhead Garage Lifting Storage Rack
Lastly, I got this storage lift off Amazon that I just installed last week to complete the project. Now with a couple straps I can easily remove the tent and rack when not in use.
Again, super happy with the set up and it’s worked great on a number of camping trips already. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any. Here are the links to everything I got. Again, make sure to reach out to Amber @ RealTruck for some discounts!:
