We flew from Houston Texas to Des Moines Iowa and picked up our new Maverick at Granger Ford. This is my second truck to buy from them the other is a F150. Everything went well and as expected. Granger has the process streamlined and there are no surprises. They do not try to add in stuff you don't want against your will and they do not apply any pressure to buy stuff you don't want. I will continue to use them even if they are the same price as a local dealer just because they are good to work with and make it hassle free.
After we left Granger Ford we went straight to Total Truck a few miles away to have a BAK revolver X4s installed. I had prearranged this and told them that they will need to install it fast because we will be starting a long road trip as soon as they are done. They had everything ready and in no time we were on the road.
Our trip went through the following states / province in order: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ontario Canada, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and finally Texas.
We saw Niagara Falls, The Corning Glass Museum, a life size statue of Don Knotts, and visited our daughter in Nashville.
We also participated in a Subaru enthusiasts annual charity event that raised about $120,000 for Make A wish. Yes we were the only one in a Ford Maverick at the Subaru event. This event drives over the course of 4 days and we saw Subaru Corporate HQ in NJ, The Indiana Subaru manufacturing facility where our Outback was made, and Turn In Concepts in Ohio.
We also managed to drive the Maverick through some nasty blizzards and unplowed highways. The Maverick handled it all wonderfully. The FX4 AWD does a good job in the snow and ice. I found the slippery mode tends to keep in a higher gear and makes the engine work harder when accelerating. I kept in in normal mode and it worked fine. When I got "playful" to see what would happen in Normal mode it would spin the tires a bit too easily - not sure if that is good or bad but it was fun. I think if I end up in blizzards again I will change out the Scorpion tires for some that are 3 mountain peak rated. I did not feel unsafe on the tires but I knew it could be better.
So after 4,087 miles the Maverick pulled into our driveway for the first time. It was covered in road grim and salt. A quick wash and oil change and it is happy.
That was our first adventure in the Maverick.
