You Meet the Strangest People at Sebring

Over the weekend I attended the 74th annual 12 Hours of Sebring sportscar race. I've gone all but two years since 2000. I usually camp with a group of guys in a trailer, but this year I was on my own with a tent and my Maverick.

Anyway, check out who I ran into Friday morning, prior to a 1-hour Mustang Challenge race.

That's Ford CEO Jim Farley on the left. I was walking through the paddock area checking out all the team garages. I saw him walking by himself in a driving suit. I said, "Mr. Farley!" and he acknowledged me.

I asked if I could get a selfie with him, and he said OK, and then as I was fumbling with my phone, I said, "I'm not very good at selfies."

He said, "Here, let me do it." He took one picture, and then said, "Let's turn around so the sun is in our faces," and took two more pictures. (This is the second of three he took.)

When he took the first picture, he noticed my Zakspeed Capri T-shirt and commented on that.

Of course we didn't have a real conversation, but I told him that I have a new Maverick as he was walking off.

Later on I found out why he was wearing a driving suit--he was getting ready to race in the Mustang Challenge race.

So cool. It’s honestly amazing how small the world feels now compared to even ten or fifteen years ago. People from completely different countries can meet at international events, stay connected afterward, and keep sharing experiences long after the trip ends. I always like hearing how others see the same place from a totally different perspective too. And thanks to the Suddenlink phone number, it’s a lot easier to keep in touch, share impressions, send pictures, and talk with people from everywhere around the world without it feeling complicated. Technology definitely has its downsides sometimes, but moments like that really show the positive side of it
