I have an XLT, and I believe they are the same speakers and yes they aren’t great. Some songs/music I think okay they aren’t terrible and maybe I can be happy with them. Then the next song comes on and it’s just terrible. Blows my mind how suddenly a song can come on and a whole range of the song can disappear into the vacuum of a crappy speaker. Replacement seems to be popular and relatively in expensive if you DIY.

I haven't had a stereo that vibrates my rear view mirror in 20 plus years.

MTX TN8MS 8" 200w Slim Under-Seat Powered Car/Truck Subwoofer Sub+Remote+Amp Kit paid $171.15

Focal RSE-165 paid $103.78

PAC L.O.C. Pro Advanced Audio Integration T-Harness for Select 2018 to 2023 Non-Amplified Ford Vehicles, LPHFD31 paid $42.02

I spent just around $317 and am really enjoying the sound.

Part of the issue is music converted to ones and zeros. Something is lost in most digital music IMHO. But one good thing about getting older and my hearing going to crap is that I don’t notice it as much. 🤣

One good thing about getting older is the wisdom gained by it: I, for one, have come to understand that I'm sometimes wrong about things, and that I always have the opportunity to learn more, both from people older than me, and from people younger than me.

As an audio engineer, I agree that the stock speakers are pretty bad.

I do not agree that representing audio as a series of ones and zeros is in any way lower quality than representing audio as a fluctuating voltage down a wire, or a strip of magnetized rust glued to a reel of plastic tape, or as a series of bumps on a platter or cylinder made out of vinyl or wax.

It is not lower quality. :D

Digital music is the most accurate and soulful means of recording and playing back audio that humanity has achieved to date.

But I guess everybody on the Internet's an expert.

The Lariat B&O speakers aren't all that great either. I replaced my door, center, rear & the sub with better speakers.

The sound isn't great, but I've found that mp3s off a thumb drive in the USB port sound better than streaming music over my phone.

They do! I put sound deadening behind the door speakers and around them. Then replaced them with Kicker 46CSC674, an that made the sound so much better. I also recommend putting sound deadening material behind the back seat. Hope that helps!

Lots of threads on options…if I were to do it again, I would not replace rear speakers though. My recommendation is to at least do door and dash tweeters replacements with some quality component speakers and get a puzu dsp. About $250 (if you do the work yourself) and the stereo sounds way better on a budget. Add sub if you want more bass to that setup.

I'm not an audiophile and have been happy with factory speakers on cars newer than 2005ish - BUT the XL Mav speakers were horrible and I swapped them out for Focal ACX 165 - they were half off at the time ($70) and come with mounting brackets/etc from Crutchfield.

Now the speakers sound adequate, as they should have from the factory.
Simple upgrade and makes the most difference / bang for the buck & effort without dealing with tweeters, amp, or rear speakers.

I think the issue is that CD's and even vinyl have better quality sound than music from a streaming service such as Spotify. But I'm no expert, that's just what I've noticed.
