First truck. I don't plan on using the truck bed for any truck stuff, mostly just groceries and misc. junk that you'd put in a car trunk.

With a tonnaue cover, is there a point in line-x? The only reason im considering it is to prevent rust.

Do truck beds rust if you're not using them for cargo?

As others have noted, the paint on the bed is easily scratched off. So to protect it, I chose the Modular bedliner and used my 42,000 Fordpass points to drop the price substantially to $163 with discount. I've always had bedliners and have never been a fan of the spray-on stuff.

Line-X is nice — We got our bed sprayed three days after we got the truck home, because we wanted that protection.

But — the beauty of it is, it’s no big deal if you go without a bed liner of any kind for a while — especially if you’ve got a tonneau.

Because if the bed starts to get scratched up, you can always go take it to get sprayed. (Because they have to scratch up your paint anyway before applying the Line-X…)

With a tonneau cover you might just consider a bed mat to prevent scratching. Lots of ideas on this forum; do a subject search. Everything from those you can buy to things like horse mats from Tractor Supply. Good Luck!(y)

After I saw how easily my bed scratched I got both the Line-X and a bed rug. I'd do it over again. But it's like the other guy said, they have to scratch it up to spray the Line-X, so you can wait if you want to and see how you get along with it. The bedrug from Realtruck is great on old knees.

Here is Michigan moisture (especially during winter with road salt) is going to eventually get trapped between a drop in bed liner or bed mat. This was my primary reason for going with a spray in bedliner. Line-X did a fantastic job by removing ALL the hardware out of the bed of the truck before spraying (rubber grommets, plastic cubbies on both sides, D-Rings and associated hardware, etc.) Drain holes in front of bed were still there. Perfect job on tailgate, area between bed and tailgate and edge of bed by back window. Couldn't be happier. I look at it as an investment as Line-X has a lifetime warranty.

Her a DIY kit and spray it your self. You don't really need to to scuff up surface for bed liner to adhere. Only if you have rust. There are lots videos online showing same results applying liner on treated or untreated surface. Also get a a bed tray from Amazon. I bought my for 70$. It looks exactly like weathertech.

after a couple years or even just months of heat and cool cycles, I can say 100% you need to sand before applying Berliner or it will start peeling or chipping allowing water underneath.
Do you have a link to the bed tray you used?

I sprayed 4 coats of a raptor bed liners. With Oklahoma heat easily going over 100f it didn't not do a sush thing. I can send you pictures. It looks like new and fills like a rock. If I have issues in a few years I just gonna buy a quart of it and work on Details..

I just wanted to mention it because we use Raptor liner pretty regularly at work and we've had 2 delamination issues due to bad mechanical bond. one of those was on my personal truck a while ago, every Bedlining company will sand the bed prior to spraying.

I'll likely end up doing a bed liner for additional bed protection aswell as a bed rug so it's not as damaging to items in the bed.

Bought it, thanks!
OP, Keep an eye on the bedrug. Virtually all bed covers will leak (some more than others) and allow water infiltration which will soak into the bedrug trapping the moisture against the bed potentially causing rust on the unprotected bed......

I wouldn't own a truck without a SIBL, I then have DeeZee or Ford thick rubber mats over it... .
