So a few days ago I did the wireless charger that was posted on here. Everything worked great until I went on s trip longer than 30 min. My phone overheats and stops charging and eventually closes all the apps if I continue to use it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Did you find a work around?

I have a 2025 XLT if that really matters.

Thanks!

Those surface chargers, all of them are bad news for your cell phone battery. Made worse if you’ve got a protective case on your phone.

Watch people defend them with a vengeance.

I'm not sure what wireless charger you're referring to but have you charged your phone on any other wireless chargers in your house? Wireless charging is well known to be inefficient and it's not uncommon for devices to heat up while charging wirelessly. However what you're describing does seem to be a bit drastic and not normal. If anything it sounds like an issue with the wireless charger you're using.

Take your phone case off, ESPECIALLY if you have metal plates for a magnetic phone mount stuck to it. Wireless charging is induction based, which is what modern stoves use to heat metal to cook food. The more stuff in the way of the coils of the chargers will force more power to be used to charge creating more heat.

Overall I haven't found wireless charging worthwhile for high battery capacity devices like phones. Earbuds and game controllers, sure. Not phones.

The one in my Maverick, can’t use it.
The thirty dollar one I bought, hotter than hell.
Got my money back on that POS

Great advice.

I'm having the same issue. I didn't know this was a known problem.

I'll take the case off and see if it makes a difference. But that is going to be a hassle long term.

I don't remember the brand, but it isn't a cheap one.

Does anyone have the Ford standard one? If so, any issues? I might look for a used/cheap one from ebay or a junk yard if possible.

Which wireless charger are you using? I am using this AT&T wireless charger in my Mav, it works fine. Phone does not get hot.

It's around $11 on Amazon.

I know it had been a minute, but if you search for a wireless charging option on here for under $60 you'll find the charger I am using. It mounts under the dash. I am ripping it out today and returning it. There are still issues even with the one Ford offers.

Sanpablo, have you used this while running AndroidAuto/Carplay for more than 30 min? No overheating issues at all? Bc mone was great until it had to be used for more than 30 min. And even within that time, the charging was terrible even though it clearly says "fast charging" on the phone.

Yes, I've used it on long drives. No problems, phone does not get hot. I'm not sure if it is "fast charging" but it keeps the phone charged well while I am using Android Auto.

My 2023 Maverick XLT did not come with wireless charging or sync.
I use a wireless USB for Android auto.
I tried a wireless charging puck and found my phone heating up.
Years ago I found with a tablet, that overheating a cell type battery is not a good thing.
Conclusion, I've decided to leave the induction to cooking.😆
I have side pockets on my console where I slide my phone into and it has a notch for the power cable that I run to the back of the of console. Naturally if you have kids in the back that may not be an option.
Just throwing it out as an idea.

Yes wireless charging is through induction. What does induction do creates Heat.

I have a Lariat with the built in charger, the only issue I’ve noticed is it will cycle between charging and not charging while driving, no heat issues and I have a normal case on it.
The reason I know it cycles on the charging is it tells me when it starts and stops charging by voice.

The induction unit does not have a fan. Your phone does not have a fan, therefore it cycles on and off in order to control temperature.
Wireless charging is induction charging. Induction will cause heat, a lot of it. You can cook with induction.
