I got one of these, and certainly it works well enough. But it is just as slow to load as using the cord, and the screen is actually slower to respond to touch than when plugged it. But it is nice that i was able to install mine and hide the Ottocast pretty well, so there are no cords there now.

Have you noticed that it drains your phone battery?
It's going to do that since you are using Bluetooth for everything. I was going to get a Dongle but decided not to, I like that my phone is always charging when I'm in the truck.

Yup, been doing quite a bit of research on all these little dongles and although many are just rebranded android phones, without a screen inside, the Ottocast brand seems to be one of the best in class.

I purchased one of the newest AI models, which just means it’s designed to just run full android on your trucks screen; and although, it does all the same wireless connecting to your phone, it doesn’t really need It, since it can run all the regular android apps. natively.

Many buy the AI model for watching Pluto TV, YouTube, Netflix but I wanted it to use the MyQ garage opener app. that doesn’t run on CarPlay. Worth considering, if you are looking for increased functionality and ease of use.

Thanks for all the info on these!! Gullzway said you can cast for free with an Android phone, I use an iPhone but have a 2nd line with my old Pixel 3 on it. Can I cast for free with that ? I watch a lot of FrndlyTv stuff like MeTV and Cozi TV.

I would jailbreak the iPhone but last time I did that AmazonMusic would not work and it is my main source of music at work. Working as a custodian at an elementary school at night I need something to keep my sanity.

just got the ottocast wireless CarPlay dongle and it works great on all trim level, using the c connector is very fast on startup. I do have a question I got a short usb c to c cable but it doesn’t work is there a special cable ? The c to c cable that came with it works great but is a little to long.

Sadly USB C was supposed to be this amazing universal connector but is now just a jumbled mess of different specifications all using the same type of adapter.

The performance and use of a cable depends on what is actually in the cable and that can vary from 480mbps to 10GBs in data transfer rates and anywhere from 3-5 volts of power. All cables should use 20 amps, but if you’ve got a cable that only 3 volts and your device needs more, you’re out of luck and it won’t power on. If the device powers on, then you most likely don’t have enough bandwidth in the cable to support the devices needs.

At this point I generally stick to buying USB 3.1 gen 2 or gen 4 cables as they can handle the newer and older tech.

I got one of these — works well with our iPhones — but also have been in search of a different cable.

Looking for a short (1-ft or less) USB C to USB C with a right angle connector at one end, straight connector at the other. (Because I want to Velcro the device back up in the cubby and make the wire as unobstrusive as possible with the right angle out of the car port.)

First one I bought didn’t work — probably was just a charging cable, not. data cable.

Had high hopes for second cable I got — but shoulder of the straight end was too wide to fit into the Ottocast device’s inout slot.
