Wireless Car Play Issues

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an issue I’ve been experiencing. I have purchased a couple of different wireless Car Play adapters for my 23 Mav Hybrid. When they work,, they are a great feature. It seems that they would work for a month and then mysteriously stop working for a day or two and then mysteriously start working again. Lately, the adapter I had was working flawlessly and then it stopped. It’s been over one week since it has worked. It shows as connected via Bluetooth. When I add a Bluetooth device through the Mav’s system it finds the device but says it doesn’t have any car play capabilities - even though it’s worked fine before. Any ideas or thoughts about what’s going on here? Thanks!

I'm using a CARABC wireless adapter on my 2023 hybrid, with my iPhone. (Adapter no longer available.)

While most of the time, it works, but has it's "moments" where it loses sync with the truck. My workaround is to unplug the adapter when I shut the truck down, and plug it in it after starting again. If the adapter loses sync, the phone stays connected by way of blue tooth. But the CARABC needs a wifi link to work, so check to see if yours requires wifi. The workaround usually works. Try disconnect/reconnect while the truck is running also.

Another upside to disconnecting the adapter when not in use is that the USB port stays powered after the truck turns off, I think for 30 minutes. My phone continues to try to connect to the truck if I leave the adapter plugged in. I can't prove that deep sleep happens less often when I pull the adapter though.

One curious thing: The adapter loses sync whenever I'm at a particular traffic light near our local mall. Always.

RF 2.4ghz interference near that light, strong enough to knockout bluetooth.

As 2.4 ghz band is unlicensed, nothing you can do about the interference, except blow the light or go a different way.

As you probably know, most of these wireless adapters are made in China and of dubious quality. The one I have is no longer available from Amazon, but fortunately it works very quickly about 90% of the time. Seems the only thing to do short of member recommended is to order from Amazon, give them a spin during your return window and go from there.

On the whim, I ordered yet another wireless adapter from Amazon and it arrived today. I plugged it in and it booted up right into CarPlay. It’s so weird. I guess these things have a short lifespan.

I don’t think it’s a symptom of the adapters. Mine does the same thing when I hard wire my phone through the USB C port. At this point it’s a crap shoot every time I get in the truck where I’ll experience flawless function or I’ll be plugging and unplugging different connections while sitting in a parking lot waiting for anything to happen. My phone will be charging off the hard line but nothing will happen in CarPlay, I’ve left it connected for 20-30 minutes and nothing will happen. The XL and XLT head units of the trucks prior to 25 are a joke and Ford refuses to address them like the battery and camera issues.

I believe that the wireless adapters for apple CarPlay need to connect using both bluetooth and wifi. Bluetooth is used to discover and reconnect devices, while Wi-Fi manages the connection. I've been using the one below since Oct 24 and it works (mostly) great. I have had a few instances where it didn't connect for what ever reason but I just unplug it and plug it back in and everything comes on correctly. I really the fact that it is small.

I had this problem at a stoplight 2 blocks from home, next to our local high school. Every time I came by, Android Auto would drop out. I wrapped my receiver in two layers of aluminum foil. Sometimes still get a hiccup, but it stays connected and don’t have to wait for a reboot.

Continuing to throw good money at bad solutions doesn't seem like fun to me, I guess.

Yup. I used wireless adapters for a few years and gave up. Drains phone battery quickly. Won't connect. Yada yada. Avoid the frustration, just plug in, throw phone into cubby, done. Works 100% of the time. And cost nothing!

When I plug my iphone into the Maverick using a wire it only stays connected for a few minutes and then the connection is lost. Works much better when I use the bluetooth connection.
