I can confirm that an iPhone and several androids I've had that you can't connect at the same time to both wireless carplay / android auto and your home wifi no matter the kind of network. I have a dual 2.4 and 5 ghz network and through the settings app for my AAwireless dongle I've set that to either 2.4 or 5ghz, with the same result always. 5ghz is of course way more stable a connection for the dongle.I have my adapter plugged into the USB A port not the USB C port.
I believe the M1a uses both Wifi and Bluetooth. I copied this from a Google search.
"Yes, the Motorola MA1 wireless car adapter uses 5 GHz WiFi for Android Auto. It also has Bluetooth connectivity. The MA1 connects to your car's existing Android Auto, allowing you to use your phone to transmit car GPS."
I believe when I open the door, it powers up the ports and my phone drops the house WiFi and connects to M1a WiFi. Then just the opposite when I get home and turn off the truck.
I haven't really paid attention to the exact timings.
But, my wife just drove off with the truck and my phone dropped the house WiFi and went to the truck then when she was out of range it connected to house again. Also from previous experience, I was following her in another car and as I got close enough my phone would connect to the M1a in the truck.
My phone uses the houses 5Ghz channel to connect. So possibly that's why my experience is different? Possibly if it used the 2.4 Ghz it would connect to both at the same time?
I really haven't paid much attention to it as it just seems to work.
Only real issue I've had is if I was using Sirius XM when I turned the truck off. The audio system is VERY determined to reconnect to that audio source again and will sometimes not respond to dash controls trying to get the FM radio to work.
