I have my adapter plugged into the USB A port not the USB C port.

I believe the M1a uses both Wifi and Bluetooth. I copied this from a Google search.

"Yes, the Motorola MA1 wireless car adapter uses 5 GHz WiFi for Android Auto. It also has Bluetooth connectivity. The MA1 connects to your car's existing Android Auto, allowing you to use your phone to transmit car GPS."

I believe when I open the door, it powers up the ports and my phone drops the house WiFi and connects to M1a WiFi. Then just the opposite when I get home and turn off the truck.

I haven't really paid attention to the exact timings.

But, my wife just drove off with the truck and my phone dropped the house WiFi and went to the truck then when she was out of range it connected to house again. Also from previous experience, I was following her in another car and as I got close enough my phone would connect to the M1a in the truck.

My phone uses the houses 5Ghz channel to connect. So possibly that's why my experience is different? Possibly if it used the 2.4 Ghz it would connect to both at the same time?

I really haven't paid much attention to it as it just seems to work.

Only real issue I've had is if I was using Sirius XM when I turned the truck off. The audio system is VERY determined to reconnect to that audio source again and will sometimes not respond to dash controls trying to get the FM radio to work.
I can confirm that an iPhone and several androids I've had that you can't connect at the same time to both wireless carplay / android auto and your home wifi no matter the kind of network. I have a dual 2.4 and 5 ghz network and through the settings app for my AAwireless dongle I've set that to either 2.4 or 5ghz, with the same result always. 5ghz is of course way more stable a connection for the dongle.

It has wifi because both Android Auto and Carplay require wifi to work, as most of the data is sent through that. Bluetooth is used for the setup process mostly, and it doesn't hace enough bandwidth for transmitting the video feed on the infotainment screen.
Not sure where you got that, but that isn't true for wired CarPlay, at least not in the Maverick. You can easily prove it by turning WiFi off on your iPhone, plugging into the Maverick, and driving around with CarPlay.

I was refering to the wireless version of both, yes, as it was regarding why the Motorola MA1 has wifi. I never mentioned their wired versions.

Your statement just came across very general, as in "CarPlay requires this," but there is a distinction that might be lost on others just using the factory setup later.

Wireless CarPlay, whether with the Motorola or some other dongle, requires WiFi. Got it. Carry on.

Considering this thread is titled "
Wireless Android Auto Won't Stop Trying to Connect?
" and the question was about a wireless dongle, it just didn't occur to me that the context would be so quickly forgotten.
