Drive a Jeep Wrangler, they usually get hit every 2,000 miles. You can even buy a gorilla glass replacement windshield to reduce number of times you need to fix/replace standard windshield.

I thought some guys were reporting cracked windshields from improper install? I'd have the dealer check it. It might be covered by warranty if no damage hits are found.

Seem to recall that also, maybe a stress crack?

Outside of manufacturing defects, it's the luck of the draw, like road hazard warranties on tires. I drove my commuter a quarter million miles with five sets of tires and only suffered one repairable puncture.

On the way home with my brand new Honda, I got a nonrepairable puncture in a tire. Just over 40 miles on the odometer if I recall. And yes, I opted out of the dealer-provided road hazard warranty.

They cover a stress crack for 12 mo 12k miles. We'll see what they call it.
Carefully run a ballpoint pen down the crack. If it stops anywhere along the crack, that is likely a chip where the crack originated. If the pen rolls smoothly down the length of the crack, it is possibly a stress crack, or a manufacturing defect, or the chip could be at the end of the crack and the crack is only going in one direction.
