Has anyone tried window films to aid in the prevention of rock chips. My 23 MV has gotten several chips since I bought it. Are window glass gotten thinner?

From what I understand automotive glass has gotten lighter weight as the overall push for more MPG.

Do you know of a film that is going to resist chipping better than glass? Sounds like a recipe for failure.

You can get a film that will cushion small rocks. PPF for example.
My worry would be the optics, windshield wiper operation winter time ice removal.
I don't know how badly it would distort vision.
PPF is so strong, resilient and cheap. You can use it on your ground floor home windows both inside and out for security.

I've put Bray windshield film on my Bronco Sport with very good results. They have a self-indtall kit. I also have film on my Porsche's professionally applied.

How does it hold up to an ice scraper?

Not sure because mostly garage kept, however wiper use to remove snow, etc, no issues. I'm fairly sure I've had to scrap it but not to remove thick tenacious ice...again, no issues. I'd place it on Maverick when I get it. It definitely helps prevent chips and dings. You might want to check with the film manufacturer though. Last thing I'll say is the stuff is quite durable.

I had it installed on mine, it isn't PPF it's a product specifically made for windshields.

There's a barely noticeable blue haze because of the UV blocking which I only notice for 5 seconds when I get in, after that there's no difference vs looking through a bare windshield. I also had ceramic tint installed at the same time, it's tough to say what contributes to the effect but the truck stays pretty cool inside while parked. Placebo effect? Maybe

So far I've noticed that bugs comme off way easier and water beads off like Rain X. Haven't been through winter yet, we'll see what that brings but I intend to add a ceramic coating twice a year which should make ice easier to remove.
