Will our Mavericks become like 64 1/2 Mustang?

The other thing is that even collectable cars are money pits. Think about how much it would cost to buy a car today and keep it for 30 years, hoping it might quadruple in value. You'd have to keep the miles low, so that means not a lot of driving and enjoying it -- you'll need to take on the financial burden of a second vehicle for those entire 30 years.

That also means that the collectable car has to stay clean and rust free, so that requires a garage for 30 years. How's that going to impact the rest of the choices you make in life - where to live, how much house you can afford, should you take a better job if it means moving and giving up your garage?

And your relationships. Is your wife going to feel less committed to you because you're always obsessing about that XLT hybrid in the garage? Are you going to give up weekends with your kids so you can stay home and wax it? Will your 4 year old need a lifetime of therapy because of that time you came home and freaked when you saw his bike leaned up against the door?

Now of course we haven't even talked about 30 years of insurance premiums, maintenance, repairs, etc. And what happens when at year 24 you decide to take it for a rare Sunday drive and get sideswiped by some moron on their cell phone? Goodby all that hard work, money and sacrifice.

So save yourself all the costs, all the heartaches, the possible divorce and everything else and just drive and enjoy your Maverick. If you invested every penny you'd otherwise spend on keeping your potential classic, after 30 years you'd have enough money to go out and buy yourself a vacation home or a Lamborghini. Maybe both.
Reading that makes me want to down a good stiff panache or two.

No.

At some point after multiple owners, a Maverick will go to Carmax (it’ll be a beater by then) and they’ll export it overseas.

It will probably be as collectible as my 2006 Honda Element. Not very collectible but I am sure it will have a cult following like my Element did.

It’s also a bit sobering to think that at my age —55– there wouldn’t be enough time left for a vehicle to appreciate anyway!
I will see your 55 and raise you 7 years LOL

These are base model plastic cabins with a low tier engine and thin aluminum exterior. How the heck could it be collectable?

I enjoy my Tremor, but having a Denali version of a GMC coming apart at year 10, I don’t see this truck lasting, it’s like nearly disposable.
Hopefully replacement parts are readily available.

With all of the other manufactures coming out with their Maverick knock offs, will our Mav's become collectable like the 1st edition Mustangs? The 1st edition Mustangs were not really a performance car, that came latter but they are collectable because of the craze that it started. Will our Mav's be the same? Especially if you have a 1st edition Lariat, with sun roof and whatever other options that makes your Mav unique. What does your crystal ball tell you?
To be fair, the Maverick (engine, transmission) is a Prius knockoff that's why I bought it, I've been saying for years that Yota should make a small hybrid pickup, they really missed the boat IMO, I'm sure they considered it and probably that it would hurt their Tacoma sales, who knows...

No, I doubt that's the reason. The Tacoma has been selling great for years despite being technically inferior for at least 10 years, it's only now in MY24 they are finally modernizing it.

Most likely Toyota - and everyone other than Ford and Hyundai - didn't think there was a market large enough for a compact unibody truck to justify the design, tooling, marketing.

Now that there clearly is a market, yes, Toyota would be really stupid to not be looking at some kind of unibody hybrid truck, because they have several platforms they could start from, but none really work as easily as just 'chopping off the rear roof' or anything like that. The last vehicle we saw like that was the Subaru Baja and it failed for a number of reasons.

Ingredients

  • 1 part beer (not a dark beer, but a light one, like a Bud, or Miller)
  • 1 to 3 parts 7-up or Sprite
😖
Back in the late 70's the girl I was dating in college, her roommate was from Malta and they very much enjoy beer and 7-Up mixed together. Went to visit the roommate's family and was offered the drink, didn't like it at all?????
