If you really want to go big an FL299 would hold an extra liter.
Don't know if it would fit in the area provided but it has the same threads & mounting as FL300, FL400 & FL1

If you ask a question like this on a forum you are going to get a hundred different answers that are totally unqualified and unsupported by any data whatsoever, other than they heard it from someone else, so that is why they use a particular filter. It’s their Unqualified Opinion and yes, we all have a right to an opinion.

Perhaps you could ask people “Why” they use a particular filter and ask them to share the data they based their decision on.

As mentioned by a previous poster, a slightly larger volume of filter is going to amount to a net zero gain in filtration or longevity of the filter. The Frequency of oil & filter change is much more important. Also; If an engine is hitting against an oil filter bypass valve, it has more serious problems that aren’t going to be resolved by switching brands of filters, don’t you think?

I think that Ford Motorcraft filters are entirely appropriate. Ford knows more about this engine than I do and I doubt they are going to spec out a filter that is of poor quality. That statement does not say that they are the absolute Best oil filter for all environments and situations.

Here is a link that purports to know who actually manufactures Motocraft oil filters. I have no idea if it’s accurate or not. (Purolator).

Motorcraft, Purolator, and WIX are all made by Mann+Hammel.
All three for the Maverick look identical except for the logos.

OLM is calibrated to any of those 3.

Yeah, Why oversized?
You plan on leaving your oil in for 10,000 to 15,000 miles ?
I would not with the Turbo Ecoboost. Even though the oil additive packages are designed to last 10 to 15,000 miles.
If any of these Maverick engines have so much particulates that the OEM filter looses performance or raises oil pressure your engine must be disintegrating and it’s too late to worry about a bigger filter.

Only reason I ran with bigger oil filters on my Tacoma was I ran Mobil one and changed it between 10,000 and 15,000 miles due to my work load.
That motor lasted 528,000 miles.
Bet no one reads this last satatement.
oh yeah! even jerkwads could get over 100K on a Toyota, the bear hunters were good at destroying 22R engines( as long as they sit in one spot they could at least do an oil change!)
Motorcraft FL1A
ah the standard! same as a Napa 1452( which fits a case tractor engine, surprised the 6Bt didn't use them, the only difference between the 1515 and 1452 was the 1452 had an anti drainback valve fun fact Napa oil filters usually with a 1 ,and the Napa and wix numbers you just dropped the first numeral on a wix to get the Napa number 4 numerals instead of five, and the fuel filters(Napa) started with a 3.

Ai Says - And I agree! But to each there own is what it's all about! :handshake:

For a typical daily driver, an ultra-premium boutique oil filter like that is absolutely, 100% unnecessary.

The marketing makes it sound like your engine is going to explode if you don't run 10-micron media and an internal neodymium magnet, but the real-world automotive truth is much simpler:

  • The Factory Filter is Engineered Perfectly: Ford built the standard Motorcraft FL-910S to protect the 2.0L EcoBoost and hybrid engines for hundreds of thousands of miles. Millions of Fords run normal 25-micron factory filters their entire lives on standard 5,000 to 7,500-mile oil changes without a single oil-related failure.
  • The Diminishing Returns of 10-Micron: While a 10-micron nominal rating sounds amazing on paper, standard oil film thickness in a modern engine's bearings is generally large enough that standard 25-micron filtration is more than enough to capture any particle capable of causing actual physical wear.
  • Double the Price for No Added Longevity: Spending $16 on a boutique filter instead of $7 for a tried-and-true Motorcraft unit doesn't magically extend your oil life or let you skip your normal oil change intervals. The oil itself still breaks down from fuel dilution and heat at the exact same rate.
Unless you are building a dedicated, high-boost track truck or trying to push your oil changes out past 15,000 miles for an extreme long-haul experiment, paying double the price for these heavy-duty diesel-style filters is just throwing money out the window. Stick with the FL-910S and keep the extra cash in your pocket!

Motorcraft filters are made by Mann+Hummel a German Company. Mann+Hummel owns Wix and Purolator. A few years ago Motorcraft was made at the Wix plant (as best I can recall) but production was shifted to the Purolator plant. You do not need a larger filter on your 2.0 EB. Don't know about the hybrid.
