In my 22 years of driving I’ve noticed there are 4 kind of people in the world of how they fill or don’t fill their vehicles… are you….

A) Wait till the gas light comes on and top off?
B) Top off after 3/4 tank?
C) The one that never puts more than 10 bucks worth?
D) Rides around on E most of the time putting 5 bucks in randomly

I personally lean towards being A.

Sadly I know a lot of people that ride around on E and never bat an eye lol

Used to buy $1 at a time in high school, about 2 gallons. Would take me to school about 3 days. 10 mpg in a 62 imperial! Circa 1974. Nowadays fill up at about 1/4 tank or so with top grade premium. Yes I know it will run on regular…

Burned out a fuel pump in my previous vehicle by waiting until the gas light came on.

Ever since then I will get gas pretty close to 1/4 tank left. No benefit to wait until the light comes on, IMO.
Cant argue that, the Mavs light comes on at 50 miles to E which is give or take a couple gallons left in the tank. You would think that would be plenty not to burn up the pump but who knows. Very understandable though you not waiting.

I definitely miss the days of being able to put 5 dollars in my 95 accord and riding all week lol that was back when gas was .80 a gallon 🤦🏼‍♂️

I test drove a used Maverick before buying new. I don't remember the model year, when we took off it said I had 47 miles to empty (I don't remember seeing the fuel light on) and we made it about 1/4 mile before we ran out of gas. I plan to one day see how far I can get on a tank but I'm going to have a 5-gallon gas can in the truck. I'm a B.

It depends on what time of year. In summer I may drive it to 1/4 tank or a little less. In winter I rarely let it go past a 1/2 tank and many times 5/8 trying to reduce water in the tank from condensation.

Option A for running around town. If I'm travelling then generally don't like to get much below 1/3 tank.

I guess I'm bi-polar, somewhere between A and B depending upon my mood.

None of the above. I know where the cheapest stations are, below 1/2 tank I stop if I'm going by one. I never make a special trip to get gas, so sometimes I'm closer to E, but it's always planned. On road trips I use Gas Buddy to plan the cheapest stops, somewhere between E and 1/4.

I've never waited for the light to come on and say oh I'll just pull in the 1st station I see. We have 2 stations near our closest Interstate exit that are 40 cpg more expensive than ones 200 yards further. The pumps are never busy but there's always some out of state plate in there getting fleeced.

B, I usually fill up when it gets down to about a quarter tank. Except when there’s any chance of a hurricane in the forecast (I live in SWFL), then I always keep at least a half tank in there.

I typically go with A since my round-trip commute is under 10 miles a day. My last fill (last night) went a little longer than I normally go as I got down to 10miles left by the time I pulled into the gas station (and was doing everything I could to stay on Electric mode on the way to the gas station).

FYI for the low fuel alerts. I've seen them at 50, 25, and 10. As I recall, at 50 the fuel light is amber, at 25 (and below) the fuel light goes red. I haven't gone any lower than 10 though.
