Have a MY25 being built the week of 11/11 and would like to purchase a bed cover over Black Friday to maybe save a few bucks.

- Definitely want a hard cover
- Plan to have a Portarod fishing rod holder in place full time
- I do like the flip up covers to maximize space

Can someone tell me if the flip up style covers sit on the back of the cab? I would hate to have it rubbing on the paint constantly.

How much space is lost with a flip up style cover if you don't flip it up all the way versus a basic tri-fold?

So far I have narrowed down my choices to the following

- TonnoFlip
- Bakflip MX4
- Rough Country Hard Tri Fold Flip Up

Thanks!

Be sure to consider the Lomax Stance: https://www.agricover.com/lomax-stance-hard-cover/

They are very high quality covers. The Stance is a bit different in that it doesn't use a rear prop rod like most, but rather two links to the top of the cab to keep the cover off the back window. Keep in mind for safety that they do cover the third brake light when folded up.

Thanks, will definitely consider this! For the most part it would only be flipped up for short drives to and from the boat.

No glue on attachments for me . undercover armour tonneau here . uses rods to hold in place for three fold up . works for me . definitely adds security to bed . Very useful for me . can be heavy to use for some .

I don't use a flip-up type tonneau, as I'd rather just have one that is easily removed and replaced so nothing is in the way of the load or the rear window and brake light. I bought the standard Lomax (Weathertech branded) for that reason. Also, the non flip-up tonneaus take up less space when folded completely than the flipup ones do when folded and not flipped up.

And it protects your back window just in case something oversized may tilt when you're stopping. 👍
With two adjustable door mirrors. Rear visibility should not be a problem when it's raised.
Better yet. If you can find a way to turn on the rear view camera all the time.

I rocked a hard tri-fold on my Tacoma for 4 years. The only thing I didn't like was losing rear window visibility when it was up. It was enough of a problem for me that I moved to a rollup for the Maverick. It's a soft cover for now, but I was trying to save some money ($239 vs $1200). I've been very happy with it so far.

Took a load to the city landfill this morning and opening it and closing it is at least as easy as the tri-fold; perhaps more so.

I went with a hard tri-fold as I thought a soft cover will flap a little on the highway. Take a look at what Realtruck offers. I messaged them about the Gator Trio (their brand) a few months ago and got a very nice discount. Not a flip up, but can be removed quickly without tools. There are a few minor things that I wish were done a little differently on it, but happy overall. There are also some composite plastic types (vs aluminum), that are sold on eBay and Amazon for half the cost of other covers, a few members reported good results with.

I have the Rough Country that you have mentioned above. I would definitively purchase is it again as it is of high quality, very little water intrusion at a reasonable cost.

I have had a Bak MX4 that I bought with my first Mav in spring of 2022 and moved to my second one that October.

Super happy with it, although I do have the luxury of garage parking so it is not exposed to the elements as much.

Did a cross country trip, and it keeps everything mostly dry. A little water in the bed in heavy rain or after a car wash / hand wash, but it is pretty solid.

100% go with Real Truck, I tried a cheaper cover and had issues, and they worked with me and got it exchanged and gave me a great price on the MX4.

I’ll second the LOMAX Stance. One thing I really like about it is that it’s made of heavier gauge aluminum than most others, it is also very low profile. I’ve seen hail damage on the ones Ford sells.

I went with a CW limited one from canada. was just so much cheaper than the other brands. It has 2 prop rods. It comes with padding on the underside to prevent damaging back of cab when folded up. It has actual handles instead of a wire to release each section. They dont directly ship to the US though so good luck if you want theirs.

I went back and forth between ultraflex and BAK mx4. Both made by same company. Guy at store told me the ultraflex trifold holds up better than mx4. Also mx4 leans on cab, granted there is foam there. But mx4 if scratched will remain black. Ultraflex you will see aluminum under it. Ultraflex has a carpet style underside. Protects if stuff hits it. Good luck on your decision.

Curious about the portarod, do you have a pic?

Thanks for everyone's replies, appreciate it.

Here is the Portarod I plan on using.
