Hey guys, I am coming up on 4000 miles (3700 ish per ford app) when should I be doing my first oil change. The sticker in the window says first service 5000. But I am seeing people doing it way sooner than where I'm at. Fordpass puts oil life at 78% should I hold out and change it at 0% or do I risk undue wear from break in on the engine?
Oil is cheap , engines are not.

Spend the few bucks and change the oil at 5000 miles min if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

I would change it a lot sooner than that. For anyone wondering, this guy knows oil and engine wear. I would heed his advice....

I'm doing my first one Thursday. Should be around 1300-1400 miles by then. I'm taking a trip next weekend, and I'd prefer to have that stuff out of my car. I'll commence to the 5K intervals after that.

With the engine oil also lubricating the turbo, I think that a 5K interval makes sense.
I agree, in my old school opinion the first oil change is the most important Maintenace idem on the vehicle, 2000 on my first and every 5000 after that, don't listen to that 10k BS
unless your leasing and don't intend to buy it. If you change your oil yourself save all the receipts and document the miles. I worked for a dealer for 40 years and seen a few people leave crying because they needed a 5/6/8000 $ repair and had no oil changes or they tried fake bills from a local shop. In my opinion if you intend to keep a vehicle a long time 2k on the first change and 5k after that and rotate tires every other change. Change your tranny and diff fluids every 20/30k and you could get 200k maybe. Remember most things go bad after the warranty period. My FX4 will likely out last me, I've had 3 oil changes in 11k miles, am 73 retired now, my truck looks and runs better than the day I picked it up.
