So many odd answers here.

If FORD puts out an AWD Hybrid Maverick it will cut into their Ranger and F150 sales more than the current Maverick already does.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that option even on the next model.

And I agree about PHEV's... pay outrageously more for the vehicle to save very little in fuel costs? Makes no sense to me. You'd also need the charging at home which would increase your electrical bill. Now if they were the same cost or cheaper than the alternative, yes, it would make sense. Currently though? Still a hard pass for the majority of people same as EV's.

Question for the owners of PHEV's on this forum: How much more did your vehicle cost compared to the normal Hybrid models? Do you save that much by owning one and if so, how long before you can generate the return after purchase (including the added cost for the home charger etc etc)?

I know that with the original Chevy Volt it was programmed to use the gas engine every few months no matter what for that exact reason. Basically if you filled the gas tank in January it would know to run the gas engine a few months later even if you you always had a full charge to run out the gasoline and prevent it from going stale. I would imagine all of the manufactures with plug in hybrids do something similar.
Ford is clearly aware of this issue. This is page 143 of the 2017 C-Max manual and the "If equipped" refers to the PHEV Energi model:

I got over $7k Tax credit when I bought it at a couple of grand over MSRP. Worked for me

I installed the charger myself for about $200.00. I already addressed the issue of electrical cost, in that it cost me about $0.05 per mile driven. I have a 48 mile range available between recharges as long as it is city driving. (EV on the Hwy only gets me about 36 mile range)

My rule is that I switch to hybrid mode when on Hwy and of course, EV mode in the town of 45K people. I end up running the fuel tank to near empty and then fill it up, say, once every 6 weeks.

Re: AWD Hybrid.
The maverick is already selling so well and there are no direct competitors in the market.
I personally wouldn't do it yet if I was Ford. I'd just do a small refresh for MY25, and then consider an AWD Hybrid in MY27.

Even at that, I like the way Toyota did it in the Camry with a small motor driving the rear wheels, it'll add minimal complexity and weight, but still get the job done.

I've been seeing a lot of issues reported by Hybrid owners. Maybe Ford wants to work out the kinks before introducing an AWD hybrid.

Same for my RAV4 Prime

Good point.

I think a huge chunk of Ford's problems could be solved if they just simplify their designs and electronics.

I hate that even turn signals need to go through a computer rather than old-school circuits which are so simple they always work.

I love how people think a Toyota Stout is still coming out any day now. Isn't going to be happening anytime soon, if it does it all.
People will die waiting for that scout.

Lol yeah I was one of them.
Then I learned not to trust any rumors until something solid comes along.

If you had a PHEV, you'd need a home charging station. Would that have a significant impact on your electric bill? I think I'd rather have a hybrid over a PHEV. I don't want to have to plug in my car, but that's just me. 😬
I had a 2015 C-MAX Energi (PHEV) and it cost very little to charge on a monthly basis, maybe 1/4 the cost of gasoline at the time. As for the AWD Hybrid Maverick, it's a matter of economics. I can't see Ford going to the trouble of offering it if they still can't meet demand for the current Hybrid Maverick.

I think that's why the hybrid Maverick has a pressurized fuel tank and all the extra complexity that this entails over the EB setup.

I had a 2012 Volt (Chev called it an Extended Range Electric Vehicle -EREV, not PHEV) from new and loved the flexibility and all electric range that it provided. It was totally reliable for the 10+ years I owned it and when it could be plugged in, offered about 50 miles of range. I drove it from Toronto to Tampa many times on gas and then used 120V to charge when available. The dollars and sense argument was not important for me - driving full electric so much of the time was all the payback I needed and gas operation made it practical for any length of trip. I have a Lariat Hybrid now and since I can't buy a Volt, have a Prius Prime on order (a four door hatch to substitute for a Volt).

AWD will decrease the fuel efficiency and make the vehicle cost more to produce and cost more for the customer. Also, an AWD hybrid maverick might cut into the sales of the Ford F150 Hybrid. I wish it was offered too...
as someone who also owns the F150 Powerboost (hybrid), the mpg is no where close to the maverick and honestly I cannot see anyone debating between the two. The F150 is a monster compared to the maverick. Side by side they look as though the maverick should be inside the bed of the F150.

I’d enjoy the AWD capabilities of a maverick hybrid but I’m not sure I’d be willing to give up mpg for AWD.
