And why is it Utah? I swear, I've driven in half the country, I've yet to see drivers anywhere near as bad as Utah. Constant speeding, massive road rage issues, oh, and good luck changing lanes. You try signaling here, there's about an 80% chance these morons will think you're personally challenging them, and will floor it to block you from changing lanes, literally happens constantly.

Not to mention because the average natural born Utah citizen has room temperature IQ, they don't understand how to drive in harsh climates. They're incapable of comprehending that you slow down in a blizzard. Flipping you off if you do so.

Sorry for the rant 😂. I'm just tired of bad drivers. Especially the one I saw 10 minutes ago who almost ran over a kid because they thought driving in the oncoming lane to pass someone going through a residential neighborhood was a good idea.

I've only driven in 47 states, but concur that Utah is right at the top of the list.

Post-pandemic I think you can say that every state has the worst drivers. Here in the DC area it seems like so many have forgotten how to actually drive around others. Good manners have disappeared.

It's GA, the land of "My Turn". There isn't a line of traffic longer than 1 car, someone won't cut, a zipper merge someone won't go around and a yellow-red light someone won't run. It's the only state I've lived where people box out emergency vehicles, drive past stopped school busses and drive through flashing light crosswalks while people are still in them.

I don't know if its worse in one area over another, but I think we all can relate no matter where you live. Here in SoCal, it's just about the same. It's mostly people who refuse to observe the laws of the road. They don't use their lane change indicators. They ride your rear end to make you move out of their way. They "brake tap" while driving on the freeway. I really dislike brake tappers. Their the ones that keep you from relaxing while you are driving. You're driving at 70 mph and the idiot in front of you see's a car two lanes over slowing down, so they slow down (brake tap), realize all is good, and speed back up. They do this every 7 to 8 seconds!! Thus the phrase "brake tap."

Then there is the "I'll drive slow on the freeway on-ramp". Such nonsense. Then as they approach everyone zipping by at 70mph, they just "jump in" at 45mph!! And if you are behind them, you can't speed up to go around the idiot.

Then we have these wonderful idiots on these new electric bicycles. They have no protective gear on. They drive on the wrong side of the road, and stare at you angrily as you almost hit them head on. They run stop signs and red lights. They zip through parking lots like a cat in heat.

Next is the high-rise 4WD people who's trucks are diesel. How lovely. These folks will zig-zag across 2 or more lanes and at the stop light they stop so that their overly large diesel bilowing tail pipe is right next to your window.

Finally we have what I call the "My car is as loud as I can get it" group. The exhaust system sounds like a long drawn out scream that a castrated bull would make. Then when they let off the gas, we get to hear a wonderful BAMM!! This group likes to do this under a freeway overpass or in a tunnel! Makes you jump because it sounds like an explosion! Great for the nerves! This group also zig-zags all the time. Pop goes the weasel!!

Rhode Island, because they're so nice they're dangerous. Rhode Island drivers will stop in their lane and block following traffic and wait for you to make an illegal left turn in front of them, putting you at legal risk. And they'll get angry if you don't break the law. Because they are being nice and you are being a jerk not to accept their kindness - even if it puts you at legal and accident risk.

Yes I actually said that. Rhode Islanders are the most dangerous because they are the most aggressively nice.

If you go to Wisconsin they'll say Illinois drivers. And, vice-versa in the Peoples Republic of Illinois.

"Bad" could encompass a lot of things:
Inexperienced, untalented, aggressive, overly cautious, rude.

A friend was just telling me that Audi drivers were bad but I like them because they move and don't dawdle.

I didn't notice if they were good or bad in Utah. I did have fun watching Georgia drivers attempt to drive in the snow. More throttle gets you nowhere.

And, I hate it when I get one of those electric bike riders stuck in my grill. Then I have to stop and dig a hole for them. Makes me late for work.

Ouch!

  • According to the data, the top 5 states with the most fatal crashes in 2020 were California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.
  • Mississippi has the highest number of fatal car accidents per capita, with 25.4 per 100,000 people.
  • Wyoming has the most fatal car accidents per capita, with 24.6 per 100,000 people.
  • Texas has the highest number of fatal car accidents, with 4,068 incidents.
  • California has the second-highest number of fatal car accidents, with 3,983 incidents.
  • Florida ranks third, with 3,451 accidents.
It's a Google thing.

A more interesting question to me is whether drivers are worse in urban, suburban, or rural areas?

I've lived in NYC, Atlanta, Orlando and Miami (among other places) and find it's the cities that have the most inconsiderate and reckless drivers. That's why I live in the country now. I find it amusing that I still get a little bothered when I have to wait at one of the 2 stop lights in town. :explode:

Exactly, some of those statistics are more credible as they take into account statistical averages per X amount of people or miles driven. But the one talking about how California and Texas have a lot of accidents are meaningless.

California has more people than any other state last time I checked, it's logical that with more people, comes more accidents. I was born and raised in Cali, the drivers are worlds better than the drivers in Utah.

You'll see near accidents virtually every time you drive in Utah. People honk at you for not running red lights here. You go to California, and it's like "Oh so not everyone drives like a moron".

You're just swapping horror stories at that point. I'm gonna say rural if those rural places are still somewhat popular. Dealing with people driving like maniacs with lifted trucks is worse than someone driving like a maniac in a smart car or Honda Odyssey.

It's just a statistic from Google. Drivers all over have been very inconsiderate and reckless all over the United States. I have been driving for 40 plus years and Poor driving habits is at the highest level that I have ever seen.
