But the vehicle calls for 5.5qt, so you're saying you fill it half a quart short?
No, I have 4.5 quarts in the next jug I open. I have 5 cars, it gets used. Also, it doesn't go bad.

Now that opens another Question. Now long does motor oil last once it is open and in a sealed container?

Add an external oil cooler, that should add around 1/2 qt capacity to the system. I don't think using an FL400A will add 1/2 quart, we're taking a few ounces at best over the 910S filter. The other alternative, filter relocation kit, and put it up top, making it easier to access, which may allow an even larger filter, the size of an FL-1A.

Just my $0.02 worth on the topic. I just keep the open container for one of the other vehicles. My wife's Crosstrek also takes 0W20, like my Hybrid. If I had the EB2.0, my step-daughter's Escape also uses 5W30.

Why do you think you are smarter than the Ford engineers? Plus, having that extra 1/2 qt is good so you can top off in between oil changes.
Finally, you said what Ive known to be true for 50 years. Keep the half quart for a mid-oil change top off.

On my sports car, I added a deep sump oil pan raising oil capacity from 10qt to 12qt and it solves two issues. It dilutes contaminants better and if the vehicle tilts or the oil sloshes, there is no possibility of oil pickup deprivation. Here I won’t (shouldn’t) have that issue but a bigger oil filter will help. The larger the interior media surface area, the better the filtration. That’s simple science.

I'd love to see some Blackstone test from 10 different Mavericks over the course of 3 years. 5 with a larger filter and 5 with stock filters. Hell, even throw 5 more Mavericks in there with smaller filters. All ran the same, changed oil at the same intervals etc etc...

I believe the standard they attempt to meet is called "oil pressure". Adding more surface filtration sounds like it would have more to flow through, right? So you decrease oil pressure at the cost of something mythbusters won't even waste their time with.

Cool mod.

Next on the chopping block: Catch cans!

In the old days we used to increase oil capacity to try to keep the oil a little cooler & to avoid oil starvation at redline. I was once told by a small block guy that with a 5 qt system 3-1/2 quarts were in circulation at high speed.
