I’m not sure how to tell about the durability? It’s one of those things you can’t see yourself, so unless someone behind you notices a 3rd brake light out, you’ll never know unless they tell you. Even cops don’t care about that one.

I check mine every time I leave my garage. I step on the brake pedal and it shines against my white garage door. That's why I'm OK with having a notoriously unreliable Lasfit LED in the third position (for now).
