Drying the truck I always leave all the doors open and go over the insides of the doors then the bottom of the doors again after the rest of the truck is done and even when I close there is still some dripage. There are quite a few spots that you really have to get your drying towels wedged into or push up on a little to remove any excess, like the mirrors. I often flop them back and forth and then push up a bit when drying underneath around the plastic and same goes for the bed rail liners. If you get enough of the towel under them you can drag it along underneath the entire way. In summer when I actually detail my vehicle I try to avoid having streaks after the first drive and it seems like no matter what there are always some.

But others have mentioned on this forum about the many spots that are going to be rust issues in the future and the doors are one of them. Looks like you managed to get that plastic panel off the bottom as well and that's another spot that will be a nightmare for the folks along the rust belts.

I’ve noticed on my white one , after a car wash ,while wiping the door jams get a little leakage when and only after opening the rear doors .
just observation ! Like I said in socal not going to be a huge problem first 10 years , but up north may want to check rear doors after large storms .

Yeah that one was damaged on this lariat hybrid . I have anew one to replace it.
yeah those rectangle clips got to spin about 45 degrees in one direction then pull down , then open doors and other press in clips can be released as you pull plastic off horizontal to the car , after all the lower clips are released. Kinda pain!

Same here... after washing in the driveway, noticed the back doors in particular held water behind the gasket. In the video I gently pulled the gasket away from the door about 1/4".

this is what I expected from this thread and have observed in other vehicles. A nice slam of the door dislodges much but not all of this water.

Thanks for finding this. Just washed today. Same exact issue with water retention on the rear doors as well. I pulled the seal away and a bunch came out.

Incredible oversight from Ford. Especially for those who live in areas where slushy salty water gets ingested. I'll have to add this to my list of things to do after a wash/drive in rain.

Another good tip is when drying go ahead and spray that microfiber towel in something like 303 or a silicone based sealer. That should help prevent these things from rotting and protect everything. 303 is water based, but it's gentle enough that if you use it over and over you will definitely notice the difference in the weatherstripping.

I dunno.. I never really had an issue with this as I always dry around the weatherstripping and areas where water gets stuck into. Another spot is the headlights where the grilles center piece meets. Water loves to stick around those areas up front.

That and these "new" designs are much better than the old ones you see on older vehicles, because they add a large space between two pieces of weather stripping instead of solely relying on one portion of weatherstripping to seal everything close to the edges of the door. Now you have two spots where weatherstripping exists. It might be slightly more to maintain but it's not a hard task and it can be done easily in under a minute per door when drying.

It happens even without rain. If you ever had a pole barn without sheathing or the film they can put on the trusses you will see drip lines on the floor or ground from condensation. Thus the reason for weep holes at the bottom of the doors. One to allow ventilation to minimize condensation but also to allow drainage.

My Maverick does same. I remembered to check them as previous Ram's doors leaked water out after rain or washing. I guess it's the design of the seals now.

In southern cal we don’t get much rain , but what little we did seems to puddle inside rear doors , unless you open them to allow the drains to not seal against the weatherstripping . Not a huge problem here ,but the rust belt people will need to regularly rinse and open rear doors for a little drainage now and then .

Hello from coastal North San Diego County. I noticed this with the tailgate but never checked the doors. I open and close my tailgate several times after washing to help drain water. Now I will remember to do it with the doors.

As an aside, I was so bothered by the gap between the bed and fender sides that I used automotive grade seam caulk and filed the gap. The area was a magnet for all manner of debris, dirt, wood chips. I spent an hour with a small pick and vacuum to clean it out before using the caulk. Previous posts said the gap helped the bed drain. Since I never had a truck with a gap where you could see daylight under the truck, I went for it. I will report back when the bed rusts out.

Thanks for the heads up. I live in New England

On day 1 I had my truck undercoated with Krown. They go so far as drilling small access holes so they can spray inside the doors and other areas where vehicles typically rust out from within. My friend did Krown on his F250 truck 15 years ago and there is zero rust anywhere on the truck and the truck is pristine even after all the New England winters. The one hitch is you need to do the treatment once a year but it is less than $200
