Use only FWD in an AWD EB Lariat FX4 Maverick?

Greetings to all,

Couldn't find an answer in the forums (apologies if this was asked elsewhere).

Is it possible to use only FWD in and AWD EB 2.0 Lariat? trying to look for ways to save a bit of gas. I had an old Mitsubishi AWD Outlander with an Eco mode that used only FWD.

Basically it works in FWD until the computer notices or expects slippage causing the AWD to engage. So most of the time your using FWD and saving fuel. Thus the reason fuel economy on a AWD is relatively close to the AWD. This is not the tremor which at low speeds you can transfer 50% to the rear tires and or lock both rear tires.

A couple other tidbits supposedly it can transfer 100% to each wheel or a wheel when needed. It also at low speeds will brake one rear wheel to allow a shorter turning diameter and aid in turning in deep snow.

Of course this is what I grasped by watching this video. I hope it will answer your question better that I can come to explain.

The instrument cluster has a screen that shows how power is applied to the front and rear drive.
Both front and rear receive power when you accelerate from a stop, then goes to mostly front. Enable that screen and you'll get a visual answer to your question.

I have a 23 AWD XLT ecoboost. I have not seen that screen. Am I missing something?

Yes. If you're not able to flip to the screen from the steering wheel controls, it is probably disabled. You can enable it in settings.

It’s one of the screens you can select to be shown along with the mpg and tire pressure screens.

You are truly in fwd running down the highway. The intelligent awd system has clutches at both ends of the driveshaft and disconnects when not needed so the shaft isn’t turning like in an old 4WD system.

I have owned mine for a year and just found the screen a few weeks ago. It's there under one of the instrumentation categories.

Edit: At least on the XL, play with the screen and go to settings and then information and under there will be the auto start/stop, the AWD, etc...,

This is the 6.5" screen on Lariat and FX4. The standard XLT has the 4.2" screen.
