So I've had this twice now where I was able to get almost 500 miles on a tankful. Note that the MPG listed on both is incorrect, my calculation on 1 was 29.9 and the other was 30.4. I wouldn't call this mileage all highway, but 45-55 speed with some lights, plus some city driving and some highway. Overall, pretty good mileage, but this is the best I've had so far.

Its great to see. I haven't hit that type of mileage but I've gotten close on some long, backroad across the flat midwest where you pass through a town every 45 minutes in between fields.

I'm getting more and more impressed with the fuel economy these are capable of getting - I just set a new personal record for a tank - 519.2 miles, calculated 36.5 mpg! (I dialed back the display fuel economy estimate to .980, which usually keeps it pretty close to reality but this time was way under).

This was on a little road trip from upstate NY to CT, probably half on interstates (65-70 mph) and the other half on state highways (45-55 mph), AC was on for a little bit (maybe 10-20% of interstate miles) and I was driving in ECO mode with a light foot.

I was pretty disappointed with the previous tank - only 28.6 mpg, mostly ~75 mph interstate driving with AC on most of the time - though considering the EPA highway mileage is 29 mpg, I guess I'm acting a bit spoiled...

That is impressive. I too have had some better than expected mileage. I have found the A/C to be a considerable draw on mileage. With the recent cooler temperature I have been able to go without A/C and seen 35 MPG and 550+ per tank on my XL FWD EB. This is stop and go rural road daily driving. I personally am impressed and have had no issues. I did notice the weather strip sticking up yesterday from the rear roof trim. From what I have heard this is not a easy fix.

I've yet to get more than about 27-28MPG out of my 4k FX4 with the wildpeak offroad tires.

I suspect if I had some more 'eco' focused rubber I might be able to creep into the 30s.
Those tires on my wife's Cherokee with the 2.0 Hurricane engine cost her 3 mpg, but a small price to pay for having awesome tires in all conditions except maybe mud and not having to do the semi annual ritual of visiting the tire store to swap summers and winters is a huge plus.

I've got the same tires and the FX4 package, but no 4k package. I would think the shorter gearing you have would hurt a little, but not a huge amount.

Now to be fair, I drive with efficiency in mind (relatively slow acceleration, no AC unless I really need it, try to stick to the speed limit, and for what it's worth, I added ECO mode and use it pretty much all the time), but I've managed to get higher than the EPA 29 mpg more often than I've been below it. We'll see how that holds up when we get back into winter (last January/February I was seeing mid-20s).

How did you dial back the display fuel economy estimate?

There's an "Engineering Test Mode" function - hold down the ok button on the steering wheel when you turn the key to the "on" position and it will show in the display. Scroll up and down to find different options (I have no clue what most of them do). One is called "AFE Bias" and you can enter it and adjust it up or down to suit.

I semi-obsessively track fuel economy, so I bumped it down to .988 for a bit, which still ran high, then down to .980 (still usually a bit high, but sometimes low - the worst I've been is 1.0 mpg below now and that was an abnormal tank).

Thank you. Tried it, but it didn't work.

Agree 100% that having snow-rated tires all season is worth every penny in lost gas mileage. I'm out in Colorado where I usually don't need snow tires most of the time but it's liable to dump from October thru May.

Does anybody know if a tonneau cover helps or hurts mpg? I don't have a clue. I seem to recall some Car & Driver tests like last century.

I've gotten nearly 500 miles combined. If I would have drove a little slower. I probably would have hit it.

I have a hard trifold tonneau cover on mine.
