usb does not recognize flash drive

this is from an earlier thread on this forum

I have been in my new Lariat Hybrid Base Trim Pack for just 3 days, and am still learning the "Sync Base" sytem on my truck, (the LUX pack has Sync 3.4). So far, I am experiencing irratic operation of the Audio, Source: USB with a flash drive inserted. Sometimes it recognizes the flash drive; some time not. Others times it stops in the middle of a song and reverts back to FM radio. Currently, I am studying the Manual and searching these Forums for answers. The Forums are much better than the Manual! I will be back on this thread as I learn and experience more.

I did notice that when playing music from the usb it would flip to the satellite radio
now I see the sirus xm is updated but NO play from the usb flash drive

I've been using a very small USB drive from my previous vehicle for the past week. Sometimes, the vehicle is slow to detect the USB when first starting up, and it will go to SiriusXM. Other times, it will immediately play the USB song exactly where it left off. I believe it's just a matter of initializing the drive on vehicle startup and the tolerance for the USB drive to respond is slow. Probably a newer/faster USB drive might help. I use a 32GB sandisk cruzer which is a bit older and now discontinued. I would suggest upgrading your usb device, as that one looks a bit older as well and the larger form factor might cause issues as well (vibration, etc.)

That sounds like a usb port issue. If the flash drive works somewhere else, I'd give the dealer a call. You could try rebooting the radio. Push the power button and the forward>> button at the same time and hold them until the radio turns off and restarts.

tried a NEW flash drive
did a HARD reset
still does not see the flash drive
Strange it was working fine earlier in the day
Off the dealer tomorrow!
And I love how you do an update over wifi ahhhh I live in a high rise how do I get the Maverick within range of my wifi (i dont)
So I have to sit in front of a McDonalds and connect with their wifi??

Use mine all the time, a little slow on startup and I have to tell the radio to switch to usb.

now its not working
took to dealer
they said: do the updates (I did right there at the dealer)
delete your phone from Ford ( I did still did not work)
Make appointment (two weeks)
My curious question is what will the dealer do??

Are you on Mac or Winblows? Make sure the flash drive is formatted as FAT32.

You have to use exFAT format for any usb updates.

FAT32 will give better compatibility and no real need for exFAT unless you want file sizes that are greater than 4GB or to use a USB stick that is greater than 16TB (which probably doesn't exist yet).
