Update: yep, the issue is brushing the lock tab next to the door handle as I exit the truck. I'll have to train myself to make sure it's unlocked if I intend to reenter it shortly. Carry on, nothing to see here.

Yep and here is a video I made showing how easily it can happen.
Especially with large hands.

I wish someone who insists that it's an auto lock problem.
Would make a video to bolster their claim.

Hope you have the keypad. However, if you have the proximity keyless and the keys in your pocket, no prob. Done this in my Lariat

In the lariat you can lock all the doors and set the alarm and lock the key fob inside the truck if you lock with the key pad. Be sure you know the keypad combo to get back in and activate the fob.

There is a Ford Service Bulletin issued regarding this issue but I don’t remember a number. It said exactly what is being discussed in this post, accidentally touching the lock button when exiting the truck.There is no repair or software offered.
I just noticed the bulletin when looking on Ford website after logging in to my vehicle “dashboard” yesterday and clicking on service bulletins.

Appears to be human error. As I demonstrated the possibility of in my video.

In two years of ownership I've never had that happen, some levers must be stiffer than others, I have to give quite a push on that little lever to engage the lock...

It depends on how you open the door with your hand. Most people don’t have the problem, my wife has never done it either. But, I did it all the time and still do sometimes, even through I attempt not to.

I don't find that to be true I know I do not touch the locking mechanism I am so careful not to and my hands are not that large I've been having this problem now since I've had my 24 Lariat but this time is all new it locked all four doors with the keys inside luckily I can unlock it from the phone otherwise I'd be in trouble since I cannot find the second set of keys I've got to change this

This happened to me also, then figured out that I was bumping the lock on the door as I was getting out. Which locked the door of course. But all other doors were unlocked. My tip to everyone is watch that you don't accidentally hit the door lock inside when getting out. There is no settings to stop it.

Yes, it is a physical lock lever, no software involved. Even if the truck had a dead battery physically moving the lever to the lock position would lock the door.
Too many people are use to electric only door locks, with no power you cant even open the door but the maverick is old school and the opening lever is mechanical and the locking lever is mechanical, there still is a lock switch that uses power to lock and unlock all the doors but if it is only the drivers door being locked then you bumped the lever to lock it and not the button to lock it.

Actually, a vehicle like my wife's 2016 Escape. Has no physical locking mechanism on the doors. If you're inside the car with the doors locked and the battery is dead. You can pull on the handle twice. Once to unlock and the next pull unlatches the door.

Without a physical locking lever or button you cannot lock the Ford Escape doors if there is no power. Other than outside with the .
Safety protocol dictates. You must be able to open a vehicle's door even if there's no power using the handles. The only exception is the rear doors which have child locks on them and can be disabled from opening on the inside.

Think about having Gullwing doors like the DeLorean. If for some reason you ended up upside down on the roof. You had to figure out a way to kick out a side window to get out of the car.

You have keyless entry on Lariat, correct?

Do you touch the door handle when closing door?
And did the keys sit for awhile non-moving?

Unlocking the Doors

With your passive key within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle, touch the unlock sensor on the back of the door handle for a brief period and then pull on the door handle to unlock, being careful not to touch the lock sensor at the same time or pull on the door handle too quickly. The intelligent access system requires a brief delay to authenticate your intelligent access key.
Locking the Doors

With your passive key within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle, touch the outer door handle lock sensor for approximately one second to lock, being careful not to touch the unlock sensor on the back of the door handle at the same time. After locking, you can immediately pull on the door handle to confirm locking occurred without inadvertently unlocking.

Considering this little fact in different place though - what if fob hasn't moved and stopped sending out active signal?

• The remote control remains stationary for about a minute.
• The vehicle battery has no charge.
• The remote control battery has no charge.

Wind blows the Maverick's door closed. Hear the click-click of the door locks activated. Um, key in ignition, spare key was left in the cup holder. Um, not the brightest moment. The hybrid ran for 30 secs then shut off for a number of minutes. Repeated continually until AAA came and unlocked the door. That took 2 minutes. Never experienced that. Make sure you have a spare key in your wallet?

For the sake of the forum. Please try and duplicate what happened. While recording it.
Recording should show the driver's door as being unlocked when it's closed and both keys in your hand.
So far not one person has been able to replicate the auto locking of the door.
Make sure you have your spare key outside of the truck.

I swore up and down that my Mav was locking the driver's door itself, but after several times recording how I open the door, it's my hand, pushing the door open and hitting the lock button. I swore I wasn't, but I was. The other doors remain unlocked b/c when I put it in Park they unlock, then I accidentally lock it by pushing it open...especially when I stop to get the mail. It's embarrassing, but I had to admit it to myself (and all y'all who told me I was the culprit).

There have been a few that have admitted to locking the door accidentally and there are those who can't replicate it and they don't want to admit it and have stop posting on the form.

The kicker you had compared to others in this thread - you probably didn't move faster than 6 mph.
So if you started with all doors locked, your opening the door did not auto-unlock them all.
Which actually is a setting you can disable anyway.
But that would have allowed opening another door most discover are still open.

You can easily make a video but keep the 2nd fob with you.

Purposely press the lock lever.
Actually press the door master lock button first and see how that protects you with key in ignition.
