Yes, the tray does not interfere with the phone holder, and you can still remove and insert it freely. The tray is installed using the existing screws on the passenger side and can also be removed if needed.

And do we think it will miss all that stuff in the multi-functional dashboard tray? I hope Mabett runs a test before an airbag goes off in real life.

This looks like something that OEM’s would never do because it wouldn’t pass safety tests. A tall passenger’s knees would be directly up against it. In a high speed impact, the passenger’s knees would shear it off of its lightweight mounting points, allowing it to become a projectile. Then who knows where it would go? Possibly downward to harmlessly hit the floor. Possibly upward to be caught by the airbag and then driven into the passengers face. I would love to see the slo-mo footage of the interaction between a crash test dummy and this item in a 35 mph frontal impact. This item is a hard pass for me and I would question if it should be brought to market at all.

Yep airbag comes out of the lower portion of the dash it would blow that crap everywhere. While that's okay I find it useless and a safety hazard.

I have never owned a VW but I assume there is an aibag hiding just below that tear away vinyl. So that bling becomes shrapnel. That will definitely leave a mark.
