So my buddy pointed it out to me. That my fuel door does not lock. No matter if I hit the buttons on the remote or use the app to lock the doors. The fuel door just opens with one push in and it pops open. Is this normal? It would be an issue since there is no fuel filler cap. Sorry if this was discussed in the past.

My fuel door opens from the inside button. It cannot be opened by pushing on it. I have a Hybrid.

What do you need that for? Anyone attempting to steal fuel needs to get past the capless filler mechanism. You can't just stick a pipe in there and it drains out like you can on other manufacturers.

It has a baffle valve inside to prevent theft.
Really…….
I could put my finger in there and push that little metal door in the filler neck open. That’s what got me worried. unless there’s another one further down.

It is further down, think of how far a gas pump nozzle goes in there and sprays fuel in there at a pretty quick rate - it's further down.

Ford Easy Fuel Prevents Gas Theft
Ford’s capless full filler deters gas theft two different ways. With Easy Fuel, a spring-loaded flapper door is held closed by latches that can only be released by a standard-size fuel nozzle. This eliminates the need for a fuel tank screw cap. When the proper nozzle is inserted into the filler neck of the system, the latches release, and the nozzle pushes the spring-loaded flapper door to the open position. When the nozzle is removed, the flapper door automatically is forced closed by the spring.
Easy Fuel has a unique mis-fueling inhibitor to reduce improper refueling and siphoning. The inhibitor consists of a fuel nozzle detector that guides the nozzle to the opening. If a nozzle or foreign tube of a different size – a diesel nozzle or plastic hose, for example – is placed in the filler neck of a gasoline-powered vehicle, the latches will not release.

“Unless they understand how the mis-fueling inhibitor works and come prepared, many would-be fuel thieves are unsuccessful in siphoning fuel from Ford vehicles,” said Aitken.

IMHO, the capless filler is a solution that's worse than the problem. Over time, dirt will certainly collect in inaccessible places and eventually create a vacuum leak. I put a folded-up shop towel over my filler to keep the dust out of it.

Hybrids also have a “manual override” release in the driver-side rear wheel well. If you are not familiar with it, look by the top if the strut and you’ll see a small green handle.

I have a 12 year old Fusion with this system. It has never malfunctioned or filled with dirt. Maybe it would if I got the truck covered in mud every day, but I doubt it.
