Unable to disable seat belt chime

Yes tried both ways and nothing

This probably won’t work.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 2 minutes and try again.

if that doesn’t work do this

turn the car to “run” but not on. buckle up for 2 minutes and unbuckle. If the light stays off just wait an additional 30 seconds or so. Proceed to try the rest of the steps.

I have gotten the process to work in a bunch of Fords.

I still think it is silly people get so torqued about something like a seat belt chime. I can tell you that when the lady slammed into the back of my Subaru WRX because she was not paying attention, the seat belts stopped my wife and I from launching through the windshield. The car was totaled, we walked away without injury. It's simple, easy and saves lives. Just wear the seat belt. If you think you are too tough or independent to wear a seat belt... you are just showing your ignorance. Just put on the seat belt. Really, it's like magic... that chime that drives you crazy goes away instantly. You don't even have to go through any convoluted steps of turning the car off and on, swinging a dead cat over your head or whatever mumbo jumbo steps to trick the system. You are going to remain in the seat anyway... it's not like you are going to get up while you are going down the road and run around the cabin. Silly people, silly people everywhere.

I used the instructions given on 10-17 ---- yesterday and they worked. Drove around the block for a test of turning off the chime - success! I did have to follow instructions to the letter. Good luck!

Very true, but if you're doing said jobs then you could just simply do the seatbelt clip like someone previously suggested while working. To disable it permanently is indicating that the reason for disabling it likely is because of the reasons CenTexMav referenced.

I DO NOT GET IT!! WHY TURN IT OFF. READ THE WARNING MESSAGE ON PAGE 47 ,, IFF YOU REALLY NEED OFF GO TO YOUR DEALER AND HAVE THEM TURN IT OFF. I AGREE ONE STEP IN THE PROCEDURE WILLL SCREW THE INSTRUCTION UP. THEY SAY TRY AND TRY AND TRY AGAIN. JUST TRY AS D MAN SAID. SEE IF IT WORKS. LET US KNOW!!!!!

I can think of one reason to turn it off…. In New Hampshire they have no seatbelt laws…. Yeah, safety and all that but I could see not wanting something beeping at you if it’s not a requirement in your state

So find the little speaker that is making the chime and cut the wires to it.

the speaker is the same for the door ding, and other dashboard noises.

I was stopped at a light. That is as about a low speed as you can get. This is not about keeping you from falling out of the truck, this is about protecting yourself from people that are careless. My experiance is that there are a lot more stupid people driving around that are oblivious to the world around them than people that are respective of what they are doing. Even going going 4 blocks down the road to a mailbox can put you in the cross hairs of ignorance.

So it is safer to drive with a seat belt. I’m not here to dispute that. When it comes to this situation you are still making assumptions. For example: I work on test sites that have no other cars. I need to get out every 50 feet or so. Should I put my seat belt on 300 times a day?

You are talking about an exception rather than the norm. There are several folks on here wanting to disable the door chime. I seriously doubt they are in the same situation as you. They are wanting to intermingle on the roads with people that are oblivious to the world around them. As for driving around a test site, I might be wrong, but when I am at work OSHA is hypersensitive about safety. I can't move a machine at all without being strapped in or with a seat belt.

Ok, I appologize for ruffled feathers. On second thought, nope... no apologies. Seat belts save lives. Period. I like to tinker on my truck as much as anyone else. It is interesting to discover how to change settings. Knowledge is a great thing. You know as well as I do that there are folks that will disable the chime just because they want to drive around on the streets without wearing their seat belt. Maybe even just down the road the road to the store. A lot accidents happen within few miles of your home. I get it, you don't want it beeping while you are on your private drive. That's your choice. I would encourage you to put it on when you drive on the regular roads. I am all for sharing information. Just be aware of the ramifications.
