I’ve been hearing that the Mavericks (only XL’s and XLT’s that I’ve heard of doing this) can suffer a total power loss. Can anyone walk me through this? What’s going on when it happens and how to fix it if there is one?

Knock on wood that it hasn’t happened to me yet, I’d rather know exactly what I need to do if it does happen than be taken by surprise.

Ecoboost or hybrid? I believe Ecoboost had a recall for a battery charging problem. The hybrids had a recall on a PCM software update back in March 2024 which had to be updated again around June 2024.
Both of these problems could cause power loss.

Ironically, I’m stuck at a store right now. They jumped it and it came on, but check engine light was on, and it kept saying the hood was open and my door was open when both were closed. They’re towing it to the dealership.

Dealer may unhook the battery for ten minutes and hook it back up. If all then works, he will tell no: No Problem!!! Good as new! Of course, the question is: How good was it when it was new?????????????:frown:

If you can supply more info you've been hearing about total power loss.

EB's have a recall for fact a bad battery that instantly occurs could allow the auto-start/stop to turn off when stopped, but not kick it back on.

That's not really a power loss while driving, except like most cars if the battery has a bad enough issue it messes with every system while actually driving and power loss among other pretty serious issues could occur.

You have a hybrid, but doesn't mean you read something about EB's only and didn't realize it.

Hybrids had a specific build range where a potentially bad bearing could throw a rod while the engine is running - so the upgraded software looks for that possible condition before it happens and cuts engine power and throws the required codes.

Or are you just talking about battery as in power?

They replaced the battery, or so they said. They also pulled the codes and said everything came up which is why the check engine light was on, and also why it said my doors were open and hood was open when they were closed.

They will be dropping my car off to me tomorrow, which is nice. Only the dealership should have thought about being a little nicer. They gave me a loaner with an empty tank. All I asked was to be reimbursed for fueling it. They said no, so I called Ford and Ford talked to them. That’s probably why my truck was done so quickly. 😂 They won’t be getting off so easily. My advocate from Ford also demanded a good will gesture. So they will be tossing in something extra.

That extra will be a cap with their name and logo on it.

I didn’t know what was causing the total power loss, but I experienced it today. Likely faulty wiring/ battery. The dealership replaced my battery, so I’m hoping everything is okay now. It was scary, there were so many error messages popping up that the car couldn’t keep up with them. Then after it was jumped, it had a check engine light on and a display that my doors and hood were open when they were not. Had it towed to the dealership, I didn’t trust it.

The dealership ran the codes, and cleared them. He said every malfunction code was coming up. They cleared them, drove it around and no more codes.

I hope not. My aunt and uncle got weathertech floormats for their issues with the dealership. Then again… Their dealership made a major oopsie by selling their custom ordered Maverick the day they went to pick it up. The dealership also gave them an XLT with an upgrade for the oopsie.

My dealer might throw in a plastic fob keyring with cap. ☹

This was while you were driving that you were getting error messages and the truck coasted to stop?

No, thankfully I wasn’t driving! It was parked in a Kohls lot, and went to start it. Engine didn’t turn on but all of the warnings came up so rapidly that the cars alarm just kept dinging repeatedly. After they jumped it, it was showing all codes (which was apparently why I had a symbol for door ajar and check engine).

I probably would have had a panic attack if it happened while driving. Especially because part of my commute is on a natrow one lane road and there’s no shoulder and no where to go unless you get to the sheriffs office.

I imagine they’re going to give me the little steel thing the dealership has, again. Last time I went there to drop it off for the ceramic coat and spray in liner, they gave me another one. I keep taking them off, they’re heavy and annoying.

Hybrid has the ultimate safety device with bad/low batteries - if it can't turn On (engine may or may not turn on soon after) - you aren't going anywhere.
And it would have to be pretty low voltage/amps to not engage a relay to turn On.
Once on, the HVB powers everything, and a motor gets the engine running from that when required.

If it goes bad while driving - 12VB wasn't powering anything anyway, it is one of many systems on the receiving end of 12V from the DC to DC Convertor.

There is so much I have yet to learn about this. Thank you for explaining it!
