I can’t believe it.
I drove my truck 1,000 miles without issue after the updates… Updates performed on 3/8/2024.
I was thinking that I was in the clear after reading about the issues after updates on hybrids. Specifically 2022’s. Wonder if the 23’s are having this issue?
I drove it for hours on the freeway without any issues and drove it around the city without any issues after updates until today..

All of a sudden today, in the rain while driving home, suddenly the (Drive) Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist not available, service vehicle soon, pre collision assist not available, service advance Trac, and parking brake applied automatically and total loss of power….
I almost got into an accident in the rain and school traffic because the people driving behind me were going fast and my truck just suddenly lost power and I had those cars coming from behind that had to swerve out of my way because they were driving crazy (like they always do) and than swerved back in front of me after getting around me, almost hitting me multiple times from the back and than the front driver side.
I managed to get it pulled off to a side street and turned it off and back on and still had no power and all the lights/warnings were still on.

When you press on the gas, it wouldn’t go….
No throttle response.
What’s really crazy is, when I let off the brake and was NOT pressing the gas, it would start to accelerate all on its own up to about 28/29 mph all on its own, acting like it was in cruise control.
I am terrified and scared and worried about my truck now. I had ZERO issues before the updates. I drove it across the country with no issues before the updates…
Now I feel like I can’t trust my beloved truck.

I took it to my dealer right away before turning it off and showed them the issues and they luckily gave me a Bronco Sport loaner.

I’m so worried now about my maverick hybrid.
I should have never gotten those updates done.

This is the most unsafe and dangerous thing that that has ever happened to me in a vehicle.
It happened at total random and its such a major issue/safety hazard that I’ve ever heard of or experienced with any brand of vehicle and I’ve owned dozens of vehicles.

Im at a loss of words, disappointed and literally shaken up because the truck just almost got me into an accident on a 35 MPH road in heavy rush hour/school traffic in the rain, in less than favorable/slick conditions.
Thank god I wasn’t on the freeway like some of you experienced with these same issues at Highway speeds. I couldn’t even imagine this happening on the highway.
When it happens you don’t even know how to react. There’s really nothing you can do besides pull over and hope for the best under these circumstances. It all happens so fast.
This issue is going to end up hurting or worse someone.

total loss of power on the road and than accelerating on its own?
That’s pure insanity.

Now I’m worried that they won’t be able to recreate the issue and give it back to me unresolved and it will just happen again.

please say a prayer for my family and to anyone else’s who is affected by these issues.
It’s an extremely dangerous and worrisome matter.
I’ll be contacting NHTSA and anyone else I can to file complaints tomorrow.

This issue is the worst of any car issue I’ve ever experienced in my entire life and now I wonder, will my truck ever be dependable and reliable ever again? Will I ever be able to trust my beloved Maverick Hybrid ever again?

Did any of you with these issues get it resolved?
What was the fix?

I have read that Ford has a fix for this. That the fix was developed within the last 3 to 4 weeks. I hope that the dealer you take it in to is aware of the recent fix from Ford. I share your concern. I too do not want to read about anything horrible happening to people due to their truck exhibiting similar behaviors. It is my sincere hope that Ford is all over this and will soon be issuing a huge recall once they have narrowed down the affected VIN#'s. Glad you are ok.

They'll most likely just need to reprogram everything to the latest update. I think it was March 22nd or so when they updated software again to fix this problem.

Good luck!

If your dealer isn't sure about that....tell them to check hotline reports. There are a couple of reports relating to your problem, where ford Technical Assistance Centers advises to update PCM & SOBDMC.

I'm sure they'll want to check to DTC's as well and make sure that there is nothing else going on. But your symptoms match what these reports show. If the codes match too, that should be the (relatively simple) solution!

I just looked at the HHTSA.gov website. For some reason, the hybrid 2023’s show no recalls reported (which we know is NOT true), and no complaints filed. Yet the 2022 hybrids show 300 complaints and 9 recalls. I didn’t look at 2024’s yet. Most all the 2022’s recent complaints are specifically this exact same problem of power loss, numerous warning messages, limp mode, and auto acceleration if brakes are not applied. But we keep hearing about 2023’s with this same failure too. It all seems to tie to a failure with software update 24C01/24V140 (Issue Date
2024-02-23).

What a scary/deadly failure! Won’t accelerate when you step on the gas pedal, and automatically accelerates when you take your foot off. What a deadly combination of circumstances —all created by fubar’d software!

If someone gets killed in an accident because of this, it might not even be immediately obvious what happened (or reported on a forum like this)? Forum members have reported that once the truck is “off” for 5-10 minutes after having these problems, all the codes clear and the truck is back to “normal” again. It’s to the point where other forum members who brought their truck in for repair were told dealers could not find or replicate the these issues. Post accident, the truck might not show the problems anymore. How the F! can this technology NOT keep a log of these errors!!

Technology is downright scary these days, and from what I understand off this forum, Ford doesn’t even own the code. They outsource it. I also haven’t read of anyone being able to rollback an update such as 24C01/24V140. The update(s) itself is ironic at best, as this update is meant to correct a LACK of warning lights but instead ends up causing them and nearly killing people. I think this is now at least two different recall updates now that were designed to correct a failure to illuminate a warning light (with the other being the taillight bulb warning recall).

If there IS a “fix” for this, only time will tell if it’s really gone. The joy of intermittent unexplainable technology issues. More is NOT always better. When will humans learn enough is enough?

Same issues here. My Mav has been at the dealership since late Tuesday and I haven't heard anything. Recalls were done at the end of February, so it lines up with what everyone else is saying about the recall causing issues. Really hoping for a quick fix.

I’m worried about my truck now.
When it did this, it put me into such a dangerous and unfortunate situation and it could have been worse…

Wow, I started to search for this issue today and glad I found this. My wife was driving our 2023 Hybrid Maverick at about 2:55PM EST and the EXACT SAME THING happened to her!!

She is terrified to drive it at this point and so am I.

Coincidence. I had my updates done 3/7/24
23E09, 24C01, 23C41
Limp mode/loss of power, instrument cluster messages like you on 4/9/24 about 600 miles after updates. Definitely scary. I was in mild traffic coming to a stop at a red light. Was able to get to a parking lot pretty quick. Same thing, no throttle response but accelerated on it's own! Shut it off, waited a few minutes. Restarted and back to normal except check engine light.
I will be contacting my dealer and I also filed a report at NHTSA.

We had ours inspected on 3/15/24 and they did a few recall updates then.

My 2022 XLT Hybrid pulled that sh*I last Friday on interstate 95 at 70 mph, as I was merging after letting a class 1 pass a truck, fortunately I was getting back in the right lane and was able to pull onto the service lane pulling the camper. We sat while talking to the Stealership but got disconnected, I restarted the truck and drove to the campground, on the return trip it happened again but 20 miles from home, shut it off, let it sit ten minutes, restarted drove home, took it in for the instrument cluster recall and this, Stealership had it overnight, said the SOB module wasn't talking to the PCM module and it does not. Had it out on the interstate today, no problemo I'm praying because we are going out west in a few weeks on a camping adventure.
Praying Toyota comes out with a comparable truck soon the Tacoma ain't even close.
