So I'm getting my 2025 AWD EcoBoost Lariat in a couple of days, I'm coming from a 2003 Ranger FX4. I had a Access Lorado Soft Roll Up on it for 10 years exactly and only had to replace the release strap once. It never leaked and I never had to adjust to tighten the canvas. I loved the cover except that the surface faded to a dull gray/dirty looking and even a detailer couldn't bring it back.

Now I'm looking for a new tonneau (willing to spend up to $1500) and am considering a hard roll-up or hard folding. I've read a lot of recommendations here but just as many say it has too many issues. While there are many brands to choose from I see BAK mentioned a lot and models like the BakFlip G2, BakFlip MX4, BAK Revolver X4s, and BakFlip F1 in particular.

Now every time I find one I like either a YouTube reviewer or someone here say they are nothing but trouble. I originally thought I'd like the X4s but now I'm hearing about the material separating and it's just a matter of time. Do all hard rolling covers have this issue or just BAK?

Also thought the MX4 would be a good choice but then just as many negative reviews than positive.

Do all new hard folding and hard rolling have issues compared to say my Access soft rollup or soft roll ups in general? Nowadays do you just have to expect some issues no matter the style?

I guess what's important to me is it functions great, and the cover surface doesn't fade or scratch much over time... I won't roll or fold much so mainly covered. Also as much trouble free as can be expected.

I had a hard time choosing too. While I waited I bought the cheapest hard folding on Amazon. But, I like it so much I keeping it.

If you may still consider a soft roll up I bought the Truxedo Pro X15, has a texture and it’s basically flush with the top of the bed. I only just installed it yesterday and so far I like it.

When the 2022 Mavericks came out there were very few options when it came to tonneau covers for those of us that bought early units, so paying around $1,000 was pretty standard. Now there are so many options that you don't have to get anywhere near your $1,500 limit to get a good quality cover. I wound up going with the Calffree hard folding cover off Amazon for a list of $380 on the 2025, compared to the $1,000 I spent when we bought the 2022 new for another brand. Works very well, I get no leaking (that might be as much due to my installing it since I take my time and check/recheck everything many times), and it is a solid cover. Good luck whatever you go with.

I put on a Ford roll up soft top so far its doing a good job . I am using 303 tonneau and con vertable top protector easy to apply and seems to work on it.

I debated price versus security when I got my 2021/22 Maverick Lariat. I ended up getting a RealTruck Extang Trifecta 2.0 Soft Folding Tonneau Cover. When my 2025 Maverick Lariat arrived, I slapped the cover on it too--it was a perfect fit. It is light enough for one person to install or remove it.
It does shed water. Because of the adjustable clamps, it doesn't leak, even in a car wash. Leaking is a major complaint, usually for inexpensive covers. I only paid about $350 at the time! I think it's closer to $500 now.
Hard covers would be great; just make sure that has adjustable clamps.

I too have considered a tonneau cover but for the fuel efficiency. With no cover and 800 miles driving with a/c and average of 50 mph I'm getting 41.2 mpg. On my 2015 F-150 I have a Leer topper/camper, and this suited me just fine for storage and cargo protection. I have ordered a Leer topper/camper for my Lariat Hybrid Maverick at a price of $3000 otd. I'm hoping the Leer dealer will take the same care in installing the new one as he did on the F-150. ie: no leaks. I also know because of the poor existing sealing of the Maverick tailgate, I will have to do some additional work to keep water and dust out.

For me the practicality (more storage and security)of a topper/camper is important and imperative. So is the MPG, but we will see how my mileage is affected with the topper.

This is my story, and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!!!

I didn't follow the direction completely. It called for sticking a piece to the tailgate that I instead added to the truck. Just below the rubber bump stop you will see a larger piece of seal. The instructions calls for that to be on the tailgate to mate up with the smaller seal behind it. I knew that would get destroyed in no time.

Thanks for the replies!

After watching tons of videos probably should be based more on my personal useage than I originally thought. I also will be buying at Truck Stuff (Wichita, KS) and having them install, that's where I got my Access Lorado. My usage & needs:

(1) Can't think how I would ever need to fully open any type of cover and leave open for traveling. I live in a rural area and travel to Walmart every couple of weeks. Just load groceries and go covered. Maybe haul other stuff in the back at times but nothing big.
(2) Probably maximum opening & closing 2 to 4 times a month.
(3) Don't want a cover you can't easily open & close (not too heavy), and definitely not one you have to get in the bed to latch.
(4) Since the Maverick bed is small and I want something light are the hard folding typically still pretty heavy?
(5) Be nice if if the cover surface still looked good after a couple years.

Jah. mentioned the Undercover Armor Trifold which looks really nice. Truck stuff carries a lot of brands don't' know about that one though.

MagStangVa mentioned the Rough Country Tri-fold. Long McArthur Ford has a video and I really liked it, they even commented how light it was to fold.

So here's my new short list Revolver X4s, Sentry CT, BackFlip MX4, Access Lorado, Undercover Armor Trifold, Rough Country Tri-fold... maybe a long list. Granted I've not seen any in person just on video.

X4S - I love everything about this cover but the delamination concerns me and appears just be a matter of time unless someone tells me different.

Sentry CT - It looks nice but not sure in videos if I like the canvas style top and saw some wrinkling along where the velcros runs in a couple of years. Looks well constructed for most part though.

MX4 - Looks really sharp to me but saw reviews about panels filling with water over time, surface showing speckled silver spots, and then is it too heavy for me?

Access Lorado - Could be done looking and just get another one but this time pay more attention and spraying with 303. My current one is still going strong 10 years now

Undercover Armor Tri-fold - Looks really nice but is it too heavy for me?

Rough Country Tri-fold - Long McAthur's video shows it to be similar to MX4 and light, pretty tempting.
