I would like some feedback on what Tonneau cover to choose.
Brand recommendations, Role-up vs. Trifold vs. Retractable, soft vs hard etc.
Thanks.

Get a flip-up hard trifold. They are nearly theftproof and can hold about 300lbs on top while loading the truck up or in snow load in winter. They also fold up against the back window to maximise available bed usage when required. There are some trifolds out there that do not flip up, leaving about 2ft of unusable bed when you need it. A soft cover is trivially ripped open with a knife, and many models use velcro or snaps to hold down the edges and are a serious pain to close in cold weather. Avoid the trendy and pricey roll-up covers as they will all be failed in a couple of years.

I got a Bison flip-back hard trifold for CDN$575 (about US$420) installed, cash, including taxes. That's about half of the Ford pricing and 1/3 of the cost of some of the overpriced American-built ones. Some of the Chinese ones on Amazon are also well-built. I had a Bison on a previous Ranger for many years, and it was a no-brainer decision to just do it again. I do not understand why American-built ones cost way more than they should, and they are certainly not built any better.

Hey! I haven't seen any Lobos yet in Montreal. I have the OEM hard roll-up (Ford-branded BAK Revolver X2 IIRC) and I love it. It's more $$ than the Bison tri-fold, but the flip-up trifolds block the rear window 100% when they're opened all the way ... I'd rather see my bikes (or whatever I'm hauling in the bed) in the rearview to be sure nothing's coming loose

PS: the price for the hard roll-up is crazy, I might have gone with the Bison if I didn't find mine "used only 2 months, for $650 CAD instead of $1600". My other advice is : if you're in no hurry, try finding one used

My 2025 Lariat came with the Ford trifold. It folds up against the window and locks in place. Then I use the back camera as a rear mirror. I like it way more than I thought I would. I have no experience with any other type.

I put an XTWEEX hard tri-fold on my 2025 XL Hybrid. I'm pretty happy with it. Supports a grown man standing on it and has been waterproof sitting in the driveway and on the road. And I'm pretty sure the cover improved my mileage.

Tri-fold hard cover is the way to go. You don't lose any bed space at all, which is especially important on the Maverick. I had a Bakflip on a Ram 1500 that I absolutely loved. It was nearly watertight except at the car wash. I just put the Rough Country model on my 2025 Maverick. The functionality is the same, but seems a little less water tight and it's slightly higher profile on the edges. The Bakflip was very sleek. I went with Rough Country to save a couple hundred dollars. Good value so far.

I purchased a Bison trifold also, and it works very well. I've found the added benefit of the Bison is that if need be, it can be easily removed by 1 person with no tools involved, folded up and stored lengthwise in the bed so you still have full bed length access. It also sits on top of the bed and doesn't require mounting rails, which sit inside the box and lessen bed width further.

I've looked at all the pros & cons on tonneau covers, retractable (takes up bed space, costly), flip up (not good if needing entire bed, blocks view) soft rollup (too flimsy and not for security). So I went with a hard rollup, from Truxedo, Sentry. Fits perfectly, looks great snd doesn't take up bed space. When fully rolled up doesn't block much of rear view, and is water tight.

I also got the Ford hard tri-fold. It has been great. I have also flipped it up against the glass to haul deck furniture 3 times. I don't bother with the backup camera for seeing behind me. After years of pulling many boats and trailers over the years, I am comfortable with the side mirrors.

Unless someone hauls tall items often that fill the bed it's unlikely they will drive with a flip up flipped. I considered the hard roll up and decided against it based on reviews a couple years after purchase. Many said that driving with it rolled up caused tears in the vinyl covering creating leaks. The design of it reminded me too much of an old roll up deck with fabric strips as the connectors. Too many moving pieces for my taste. But I am open to others opinions of them so how long have you had yours and how far have you driven with it rolled up? Can you partially open it or do you have to fully open it?
Would you partially open a trifold?

I went with the Truxedo Sentry CT hard rollup after going through some negotiation with RealTruck. Got it for 250 off the 1399. Wanted something I could roll up and quickly remove (two 1/2" nuts, slide the locker and light and easy to pick up). When off it will fit in the back seat (seat up of course).
People around here take stops signs as an option so I have front and rear cameras. The flip up prevents you from viewing the rear. The roll up takes about 6" of space (diameter). locking the tailgate keeps the bed secure. Haven't finished doing the water seal on it so I can't speak to that.

All personal preference. I've have had two tri-folds and not being able to look behind me drives me nuts.

How is it for keeping the water out?
