I intalled the BAK Revolver X4S hard folding cover the day I took delivery (one month ago). Did it solo and with a bum knee (recovering from knee replacement to surgery) it took maybe 45 minutes).

It comes with more than enough weather stripping and good Instructions.

You can operate the tailgate with the cover closed. Of course it does not flap in the wind.

I have not gone through a car wash or driven in heavy rain. But it has been parked during a deluge with only the slightest dripping inside.

It's an upgraded version of the hard roll up Ford sells. I purchased from Realtruck with rhe Alex-MTC discount.

As has been noted elsewhere, you need to superglue the plastic corner plates or you WILL lose them. Mine popped off like three times in the driveway before I glued them. No issues since.

Of course like so many people on this site I'm waiting. However the cover I'm looking at is the Truxedo Sentry CT. I got a quote from Truxedocovers.com they beat everyone by $100. Its a heavy duty rollup.

Ok so when I first got my truck I immediately ordered a gator sfx from realtruck. Great price, great service and very fast shipping. It was only ever meant to be temporary until I got all my ford points, then I was going to buy a hard trifold (for security) from ford using points to offset cost.

Then two things happened. First, the gator sfx turned out to be MUCH nicer than I thought it would be. If I didn't have concerns about someone slashing the cover and stealing stuff from the bed I would have kept it. Second, I found out I could spend ford points on a SIBL done by the dealer. So all the points went toward that. At that point I was seriously considering just leaving the Gator since it was perfectly adequate in every way except for the security thing.

Then a third thing happened: I found out about kikito hard trifold covers sold on amazon for under $500. Figured at that price I'd give it one a try and could send it back if it was a POS. Turns out that one is pretty nice, too. Not super great but nice enough. MUCH more secure than a soft cover so I decided to keep it. Gator is up for sale if anyone is interested.

Both were easy to install, both leak a little bit front and back in the car wash. Both came with extra weather stripping that I didn't bother to install because it doesn't leak enough to worry about. It's a truck bed not a climate controlled storage facility.

Love my Truxedo sentry CT. Very high quality and functional unit. Only took 25 minutes to install by myself.

I have the ford OEM cover hard tri-fold cover. I like it a lot and quality seems very good. It folds up so it can also rest against and secure braced back to the rear window. It is a relatively simple installation as I am sure most are.

I agree, I’ve had it since March, it’s great.

When the BAK X4S is rolled up, how much does it overhang the bed?

Like to hear from some Northern Maverick owners on recommendations. Considering Snow load and ice I could see where many of these soft ones just wouldn't hold up or become very difficult to access. Just curious.

Thanks

I have always had soft covers. Some roll up and 1 trifold. Had one that actually had a hinge and would raise with a pins that you could take it off. How hard is it to remove a hard cover? Being such a small truck looking to stay away from any type of rail system too. They always seem to get in the way.

I am wondering what peoples opinions are related to hard tonneau covers as I want one that is water tight/proof, can be washed without concern through car wash, and does not need to be closed AFTER the tailgate is closed.
  1. Ford Hard Tonneau cover installed by dealer, would it be covered by truck warranty as a dealer installed option?
  2. Ford Hard Tonneau cover VS aftermarket?
  3. Which Hard Tonneau brand/make/model cover to provide water tight/proof protection?
  4. Which Hard Tonneau brand/make/model cover to hold up to car washes?
  5. Which Hard Tonneau brand/make/model cover that can be closed BEFORE tailgate is closed?
Thanks, have a AWD EcoBoost with towing package and Lariat package being built week of Nov 8th.
I have to recommend to go with what I have...Bison Tri Fold. Super happy with it and it checks most of the boxes:

-pretty good water tight, few drips in the corners out of the box but also a few mods to be done after to mitigate
-car wash no problem, the install video even has a guy standing on it
-can lock in place before tailgate is closed
-made for winter cold use (incl snow)

I got all that for $689 Canadian installed. Not sure about shipping but if you're near the Bison head office (Ajax, Ontario) you could ask for free installation. Others that got shipped have said install wasn't too hard.

Upstate New York here, we can get a fair amount of snow. The wet heavy stuff too. I see many trucks with soft covers.

My friend has something similar to the Truxedo X15 on his F150. He said it handled things fine, just get one that has cross bars; which X15 has.
I saw reviews about the BAK roll up not working well with freezing rain, or melting then freezing.

I wasn’t concerned about snow with the X15, as I don’t park outside overnight.

I went with X15, but after some fitment issues and flappy noise, I exchanged it for the BAK X4S. It handles around 300 or 400 lbs. I just won’t open the cover if there is freezing concerns.

The hard folding, that sit on top of the bed rails, will hold the most weight. But I see that as only needed for snow, if you always park outside and don’t brush it off; or maybe a place that has snow you can’t keep up with.
